@tes @Helen_Amass You really published this @tes Absolutely shameful. "Expert" professor who ignores lived experiences of people who are autistic. She's out of touch. Who's agenda are you kowtowing to I wonder?

‘I’ve been swept up by the autism spectrum idea, and it’s only in the past 10 years that I have felt things have gone too far. Very slowly, I have come to say, “No, this is not right”’: Autism expert professor Uta Frith talks to @Helen_Amass tes.com/magazine/teach…

When I took Ryan into his daycentre this morning he saw the 2 sets of automatic doors closing and instead of waiting rushed excitedly through and got stuck in the second set of doors luckily it was only very brief and he wasn't hurt, he came out of the doors and shouted oh balls I got stuck, never a dull moment with Ryan.

And the opposite too , sometimes they might eat something to please , just because its been given to them, so the assumption is that they like it, then later you have a sea of mushroom vomit all over the table, im speaking from experience, Ryan doesn't like mushrooms but didn't want to say no to member of staff

I'm often asked how to help a autistic person to eat different foods or try different foods, "feed the table not the child", put the foods on different plates on the table, the child gets a empty plate, this way they can choose not only what goes on the plate, but importantly where it goes on the plate, when you prepare a plate of food you are preparing it how you like the food to go on the plate, a autistic person might want to arrange it by texture or smell or they simply might not want foods touching each other, all autistic people are different what works for one may not work for another.

Ryan won a award "Trivia Titan Award" at his daycentres black tie event, "in recognition of his knowledge and talents in all topics " he's never won a award before, never been to a black tie event before, and he never ever wears suits, oh he also had candy floss today for the first time ever too, autism hey, nothing happens ever for years , then everything happens all at once, today was a day for a lot of firsts. just because something has never happened doesn't mean it never will.

Ryan eating candy floss yesterday for the first time, once he discovered he liked it he kept disappearing and I'd find him in the queue waiting for another.

@autcareandshare Adam we need 1000 of you working to help families. Terrible that it is this difficult and stressful to get support that children and families need. It's disgusting to be honest. Thank you for all you do. ❤️

My details were passed to a mum who needed some help, her child needed a alternative provision to better support her child's needs but the move to a alternative provision was blocked by school and the local authority over and over so I was recommended as someone that may help well lots of team meetings phone calls and discussions later , the school have now admitted they cant meet need so now the child will get the alternative provision, this was very very challenging, i started to think we might not be successful, but we never gave up. Im so very pleased that the family will now finally get the correct support

@AXS_UK @JYPETWICE @TheO2 Have already tried everything you have suggested as have many of my friends-it's not us, it's the system and I won't be wasting any more time trying to sort it out. Let's see what sort of debacle tomorrow's general sale is like.

I started work in January, I'm pretty good at challenging things coming up with strategies and hints and tips etc but the tech side of things writing emails doing spreadsheets i hadn't a clue, I have a access to work coach that helps me with that, I was about to lose my hours for my work coach, I ring access to work they refused to do anything said I'd have to wait 9 months just to get my case heard,I off course challenged them, they then promised calls back, didn't happen I rang a few more times , its not a big win but they have now added a few more hours of support and I can now apply for renewal of support in October, this is a system designed to help disabled people into work, now in work I have to fight to have the support continued, why is everything so difficult.

Lots and lots of talking and conversations about autism what causes it?, how do we stop it?, how do we cure it? , what im not seeing a lot of is Reminders that autistic children become adults, talking about homelessness amongst autistic people, and unemployment. i fear that all we'll see is supermarkets promoting autism awareness hours during times, that were already quiet and an upsurge of autism friendly screening of Disney movies at the cinema, ironically we'll see tick box schemes aimed at the very people that don't fit into boxes.

@autcareandshare You help 1000's of people on here and you have an extremely important job-all this DESPITE being undiagnosed and lacking support throughout your life. Some of the greatest writers are crap at spelling and grammar, hello editors and proof-readers. X is not an English exam.

At school, I was an undiagnosed autistic. It was the 70s that wasn't uncommon, my writing is ineligible like a spidery scribble with the letters around the wrong way, one day we're set a task to do a story using each word of the alphabet i couldn't write it out, but a teacher asked me to stand up in front of the class and say it and within a few short minutes I came up with a story at 7 maybe 8 I stood there telling this story that part is easy for me, whenever I've struggled for money I use my creativity, one time I won a poetry competition and we all had a fancy 5 course meal, I bring this up because once again I've had comments about my grammar, not being able to write or get my words in the write place doesn't mean someone is stupid or lazy just means their brain is a little different, see as children some of us are given support but as adults that were missed they will still need that support or certainly the opportunity to have it, that was all a very long way of saying I will make mistakes and if grammar is important to you this account won't be for you, i do try to make my tweets as coherent as possible with a a grammar app but it doesn't pick them all up .
