There seems to be some confusion where people are assuming that because most stories will have emotional stakes attached to fights (Luke vs Vader in ROTJ) that that somehow negates the existence of physical stakes, as though those two don’t go hand in hand.

@Dread_Botlord @YaBoi_ChipsAhoy The climax is him choosing not to kill Vader which in the scene is presented as the same thing as him rejecting the dark side. It's very easily to extrapolate from that that the power to kill Vader is related to the dark side.

It can then be contrasted with the "true" strength that is harder to understand but more valuable

the throne room fight isn’t about who is “more powerful” within the star wars universe. it’s a test of morality between father and son, and of conviction. i guess sure you can quantize and scale morality and conviction but at that point you’re doing it just to do it
