“no you don’t understand” i say to my bewildered dissertation committee “if you’d refer to slide 7 you’ll see that Scoob and Shag are behaving as historically progressive forces when acting as the reluctant werewolf despite their apparent racism against Draculas”

@jbillinson Yeah because when the world watched return of the jedi they all knew who Jabba the hutt was going into it… oh wait. It’s meant to introduce a character that some might recognize but the reference isn’t meant to be significant.

I do not actually already know the name and this is sort of the problem with trying to center this entire franchise on a cartoon only a fraction of the fanbase watched and the weird characters one guy in a cowboy hat is obsessed with
Star Wars@starwars

you already know the name. This Friday, witness Rotta the Hutt in action when Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in theaters and IMAX. Get tickets. Fandango.com/StarWarsTheMan… #TheMandalorianAndGrogu

Some personal news: I just started a new job this week as the person who decides only the opening camera angle of every quarter during the Western Conference Finals.

@NBACouchside that’s just really hard to do defensively lol especially when rolling into one off matchups. planning for a series is different

Thing I don't understand is why teams don't do more playoff style funneling of shots to least talented, most reticent shooters in a given lineup during RS. Like Spurs made sure Caruso shot way more threes than he usually does, why doesn't everyone do that even in RS?

Death spiral feels too kind, just fully stillborn even- nothing of worth since Mando season 2 if I’m being charitable, and I say this as someone who’s favorite character was Ahsoka once upon a time

The decline of Favreau and Filoni’s corner of Star Wars has been surreal to watch. It technically started with S2 of The Mandalorian, but no one noticed over the cameo fest. Every story since, from Book of Boba Fett onward, has been a creative clusterfuck.

@Dread_Botlord And those events unfolded the way the narrative required thanks to the writer's understanding of many different factors--including, yes, the respective power levels of the characters!

it’s really funny that this guy decided to just redefine all forms of narrative stakes as “powerscaling” and then secreted his argument on an example where the relative “power” of the two characters (luke and vader in the throne room) is almost entirely irrelevant lmfao
Sheev Talks 🟢 || The Andor video arc@SheevTalks

There seems to be some confusion where people are assuming that because most stories will have emotional stakes attached to fights (Luke vs Vader in ROTJ) that that somehow negates the existence of physical stakes, as though those two don’t go hand in hand.

@SheevTalks yes! but you are the one who said that the fight only happened because luke wasn't "stronger" than vader! i am using your framing!

@Dread_Botlord I'm getting to a point where I think I'll have to require you to rewatch the movie before we can continue this discussion, because you seem to have forgotten that there are several scenes after that where the fight is ongoing, and Luke is therefore unable to get to Palpatine

@SheevTalks right what matters is that he was suffering in the moment. it genuinely doesn't matter if there was some version of events in which luke was "powerful" enough to block the blast, what matters is in the events that unfolded he didn't and was in pain

@SheevTalks you seem to be implying that luke not just pushing vader aside to hit the emperor means he's weaker than vader. thats both not what it means, and not important narratively

@SheevTalks it just doesn't matter if he could or could not have under specific circumstances. he might have been able to under other circumstances, it just isnt the point. his relative power vs the emperor is not the point of the scene!

@Dread_Botlord I believe you're confused. Luke's own personal arc in choosing not to kill Vader is not what's being discussed, and has nothing to do with his general philosophy toward fighting to protect himself/his loved ones. Had he had the power to stop Palpatine from hitting him, he wouldve

@SheevTalks Luke doesn't swing at vader, he swings at palpatine, who doesn't react because he is confident vader still wears the emotional shackles that will cause him to block the blow.

@Dread_Botlord What shackles are you referring to? The literal shackles Palpatine had already removed, or are you referring to some metaphorical shackles that you think are at play here? Luke's goal in that moment is to kill Palpatine.

@Dread_Botlord I think the fact that Luke isn't physically powerful enough to incapacitate Vader such that Vader can do nothing to protect the emperor is, indeed, a factor in how the final battle plays out, yes. That is not disputable; it is what happens in the movie.
