One of the original three chicks died recently and the mother removed its body, so the cause of death will not be known.
The father has not been seen since last week and is presumed to have died.
The good news is that the the mother should be able to provide for the remaining two chicks, who are old enough to be on their own for much of the day while the mother hunts.
This nest location has a tragic history, as a previous father perished as chicks were growing up in 2024.

@BirdCentralPark Mom Hawk will be fine and the rest of the babies. Mom’s a tough one!

@BirdCentralPark And don’t forget the 2025 dad died too which is why the babies weren’t born. Mom sat on the nest for a long time last year but she was alone for months and then they never hatched.

@BirdCentralPark They were this morning yes! And I think that is the original family I saw when two were left.

@MelissaArmo That's great! Are they by the Central Park Lake?

The congestion tax has destroyed many businesses in Lower Manhattan.

Astor Place & Broadway without Cozy Soup 'n' Burger just doesn't make sense. Small businesses increasingly can't survive in Lower Manhattan, and our state legislature has been no help. 🆘

This might be the most adorable thing in Central Park 🦝🥹
I promised Mika that we’d go to Central Park and try to find raccoons, and somehow we hit the jackpot ❤️
Not only did we spot a mother raccoon peeking out of a tree, but two curious babies kept popping their heads out to see what was going on below 🥹🌳
Raccoons are mostly nocturnal, so seeing a mom and her babies like this felt extra special. One of those magical New York City moments we’ll be talking about for a long time 🦝✨

We’ve been lucky to see many Scarlet Tanagers this year. One day we saw at least four in a single morning.
This one popped by the trees between Turtle Pond and the Delacorte Theater.
