Pro UBI, listen to my podcast with my friend Katie, we talk nonsense about everything we don't know about.

All those Gladys fans and ICAC critics have been very quiet today.

Mr Morrison could have taken responsibility for leading the nation and delivering renewable jobs and investment. Instead he's using taxpayers' money to buy political peace with Barnaby Joyce.

The government’s decision to protect Christian Porter by effectively dismantling the Register of MPs Interests - giving politicians the green light to conceal the source of donations and gifts - didn’t make the front page of any newspaper in the country.

@BlairWilliams26 This convo n is an example of why government is not effective, we both agree coal industry needs to stop, we both agree workers shouldn't be left behind, but we disagree about how to do both these things so then nothing gets done. We have acted out our modern political system lol

@BlairWilliams26 I dont believe its a this or that, its just going back to your original point. There are solutions but no one in charge wants to act.

@BlairWilliams26 UBI is also better than jobseeker/keeper in this regard as it doesnt exclude professions/income level and addresses the main problem of lack of wage growth. Again its also impossible for companies to rort the system as payment is at an individual level.

@BlairWilliams26 Its also hard to retrain workers contrary to what politicians say it doesnt come about in the data. As an aside what happened to academics in Australia was atrocious and jobkeeper shouldve really been UBI imo that didn't exclude anyone. That way academics + artists had support/2

@BlairWilliams26 Its honestly the cheapest a-political way to stop coal mining in Australia. Plus many benefits to proping up workers post industry collapse. USA manufacturing is a clear case of job loss leading to inc. Drug use. Crime and deaths of despair extreme political views emerging /1

Wow. It’s just been revealed that $19.7 billion of taxpayers’ money went to firms with rising revenues as part of JobKeeper. That’s $2000 💰 for every Australian household.

Friday night feels… everyone else in the house has gone to bed but I’m not done decompressing yet. Starting back on Episode 1 of the Sopranos seems like a good option!

@drgregkelly It's especially galling coming from the people who's Laissez-faire attitude got us back into this #COVID nightmare in the first place.

@drgregkelly I'm not afraid of freedom, I remember it fondly. I'm far more fearful of politicians who think my "freedoms" are theirs to gift me, and that I should feel grateful. 1/2

@BlairWilliams26 Not frontline workers, retail workers, bus and taxi drivers, they're expendable in the eyes of a Perrottet government. As long as cbd offices are open thats all that matters.
