A thread on the state of Sudanese journalism/journalists. These are examples from the first 3 months of this year alone. Shoutout to @hassanberkia for his consistent reporting on the challenges and repression faced by his colleagues. #KeepEyesOnSudan

Full Award Acceptance Speech النسخة العربية في التعليقات Ladies and gentlemen, thank you. I am profoundly honored to receive this award. But let me be clear from the beginning: this moment is not about me. It is not about personal achievement or individual recognition. This moment is bout SUDAN. It is about ITS PEOPLE. And it is about the value of human life. Since 15th of April 2023, my country has been living through a devastating war — one that much of the world barely sees. Every day brings stories of loss and survival that go far beyond imagination. When the war began, indiscriminate brutality surged without warning. People fled their homes overnight. Neighborhoods emptied. My own family was displaced, along with countless others. As fear took over the streets, something else disappeared as well — media presence. Reporting became increasingly dangerous, movement was restricted, and Sudan slowly began to vanish from international coverage. I was not watching this from a distance. I was living it. And as voices were silenced and stories left untold, I came to understand something deeply: silence, too, can be a form of violence. When I was given the opportunity by the Bureau Chief of Al Arabiya in Khartoum, I chose to stay —at a moment when leaving would have been safer, easier, and perhaps more understandable. I stayed because the stories of my people demanded to be told. I stayed because when others lost their voices, someone had to speak. With a camera and a microphone, I tried to carry those voices beyond the borders of Sudan—to remind the world that behind every headline is a human being, and behind every statistic is a life. For me, journalism became more than a profession. It became a responsibility: to bear witness, to document suffering alongside resilience, and to insist that our humanity not be erased by neglect. What I saw during this time was not only the brutality of war, but the extraordinary courage of Sudanese journalists. Many work under constant threat—detained, tortured, kidnapped, or forced into silence. And yet, they persist. They report. They document. They tell the truth. This award belongs to them as much as it belongs to me. I am deeply grateful to my family, my friends, and my colleagues who stood by me through the darkest days. I thank Al Arabiya Network, and especially my colleagues in the Sudan Bureau, for their trust and for the courage they showed every single day. My sincere thanks to Free Press Unlimited—for this recognition, and for its unwavering commitment to defending press freedom around the world. That commitment is not abstract. For journalists in Sudan, it is essential. And so, as I stand here today, I want to leave you with a simple but urgent message—to European media, to international newsrooms, and to all those who help shape global attention: Please Do not let Sudan become a forgotten story. Do not reduce it to fleeting headlines or moments of interest. Stay ENGAGED. Keep listening. Keep telling these stories—with care, with consistency, and with humanity. This award is not an ending. It is a responsibility. A responsibility to keep telling the truth, to stand with those whose voices are unheard, and to ensure that Sudan is remembered not as a crisis, but as a country of people—real people—whose lives matter. Thank you for listening. And thank you for keeping Sudan in the world’s conscience.

We successfully delivered a cash assistance intervention to displaced and conflict-affected households from Kadugli. The assistance will empower families to prioritize and meet their most critical needs based on their individual circumstances.

Sudan's army managed to pierce the RSF's siege on the town of Dilling in South Kordofan. But civilians are still largely trapped and at risk of atrocity crimes. My story for The New Arab. newarab.com/news/sudan-arm…

What happens when one of Sudan's major food-producing areas, South Kordofan State, is unable to farm due to insecurity? Cities such as Kadugli and, most likely, Dilling are already facing famine conditions, having been under siege by three different armed groups that prevent movement and trade. South Kordofan's poor agricultural returns in 2025 and for the foreseeable future have disastrous effects for the country's food security both for today and tomorrow. See our report for more. #Sudan #KeepEyesOnSudan

I love(d) teaching international law, but I don’t regret walking away! How do we, with straight faces, teach students that cardinal rules on territorial integrity, self-defence, use of force e.t.c. still hold meaning while all around us the ‘mighty’ violate them with impunity?

Siham Hassan ran community Kitchen’s in Al Fashir but she did not represent the ERR’s. She fundraised the kitchens she supported independently through a WhatsApp group she setup. Mutual aid (nafeer system) is an integral part of Sudanese society and there is a huge umbrella of Sudanese led initiatives and organisations besides the ERR’s that have used this traditional system to provide aid and alleviate suffering throughout this war. There however, appears to be a peculiar fixation in the West to credit all the work done by hundreds of thousands of volunteers and countless grassroots initiatives to just one group.

South Kordofan: Imminent battles and soaring prices South Kordofan is edging toward a wider confrontation as airstrikes and shifting frontlines push fighting closer to Kadugli and Dilling, driving displacement and rising civilian fears. After army air raids west of Kadugli on 17 Dec, RSF and SPLA-N forces seized Borno, just 36 km from the state capital. Kadugli is now tense, with residents fleeing and aid agencies evacuating staff. Dilling is effectively besieged. Drone and artillery attacks have disrupted markets, caused cash shortages, and sent prices soaring. Flour now costs about 14,000 SDG/kg. Hospitals face acute shortages as civilians remain trapped. Only eastern areas have seen relative calm, as the state braces for further escalation. #SouthKordofan #Sudan #KeepEyesOnSudan #AyinBulletin

I made a call to enquire this is what I was told; In the wake of the recent large drone swarm attack on Atbarah that crippled the national electric grid as well as damaged the city’s airport the River Nile State security committee banned ALL public gatherings with the length of the ban extending to to include the New Years Celebrations. Now see how this article labours to manufacture a false narrative out of that.
Ayin Network - شبكة عاين@AyinSudan

Christian communities in Atbara, northern Sudan, have been barred from celebrating Christmas under new “security” measures, signalling a renewed rollback of religious freedoms. The city has seen no active fighting, yet authorities banned all public celebrations, echoing restrictions imposed during the Bashir era. Gains made after the 2019 revolution continue to erode amid the war and military rule. #Sudan #ReligiousFreedom #KeepEyesOnSudan
