@hotflashinc I left the house top to bottom in “unflattering horizontal” stripes. Fuck it. The “rules” need to be ripped up in midlife.

When I was 30 I decided to grow my hair out ‘one last time’ and stop wearing shorts above the knee. Both of those things were nonsense, based on some external ageist construct. That’s what this time helps us realize, right? What other rules are you deciding to ignore?

@KerriSackville Yeah and the resilience backlash is here. Forced coping in the face of shit shows at work and home (& writing books?) is the reality.

Was at a publishing seminar yesterday and the overarching theme was that we writers need resilience. Which was enlightening, cause I actually thought we needed money.

Bring your whole self to work or not? This response from a @nytimes reader grabbed me. “edited authenticity”: yourself, but in judicious proportions. One hundred percent of anyone is … a lot. #authenticity

Non-inclusive list of things my teen has given me this year: - eyerolls - Covid - contempt for being a 'boomer' (I am not a boomer) - dirty laundry - a bucket of vomit (she was unwell) - nausea (from the bucket of vomit) - conjunctivitis.

@insydney @gedkearney Silence begets silence. Research shows women worry about negative perception, so they struggle on and possibly leave. The cycle continues. Stress makes everything worse. The workplace opportunity is huge. It makes business sense.

@Menocollective1 @gedkearney Women tend to hide the problems they are going through. Best to discuss and try to find some practical solutions. Especially for blokes who maybe unaware.

For so many women, menopause changes lives, disrupts careers and can create a dark cloud of distress that endures for a long time. As a Government and as a community, we need to do more to support women through menopause. abc.net.au/news/2022-10-0…

@gedkearney Yep that was my experience. A binary decision at the peak of my corporate career: quit or fight. I quit. Binary decisions are never good. I hope to empower women to have a 3rd option.
