@ericweinstein and living in Massachusetts I saw what all of the local governments got to say regarding fiber optics rollouts for upgraded communication infrastructure it turned into a big auction of give me give me give me on a personal level

A) Left High School early for college.
B) Entered University at 16 or younger.
C) Skipped a bachelor’s and started research in STEM directly.

We should simultaneously be talking about the fact that our institutions punish an American child ready for a research university before the age of 18.

NEW: UC San Diego has released a new report documenting a “steep decline in the academic preparedness” of its freshmen. The number of entering students needing remedial math has exploded from 1/100 to 1/8. They’ve had to create a second remedial class covering elementary and middle school math skills in addition to the one covering gaps from high school. 🧵

He pulls one off the shelf and shows you where to look at a date. The donuts are from 1/1/25

🧬 Unexpected, massive strands of DNA have been found in the human mouth. Researchers in Tokyo have uncovered massive strands of DNA—called Inocles—inside bacteria that live in the human mouth. Found in nearly 75% of people, these giant extrachromosomal DNA elements are about 350,000 base pairs long, making them some of the largest ever seen in the human microbiome. Using advanced long-read sequencing and new methods to filter out human DNA, scientists revealed what standard techniques had missed for decades. Inocles appear to carry genes that help bacteria survive in harsh conditions—such as DNA repair and oxidative stress resistance—and may play roles in gum disease, immunity, and even cancer.
