Like I get that people wouldn't choose this for their own garden, but why do they get so angry about someone else doing it?

hi British citizen of Bengali heritage here, just putting a quick word in for the hedgehog, a noble beast that has caused zero (0) famines.

@Sampaio2Saul @ligertail I mean it depends on the country and the system, in the UK I certainly have issues with FPTP and the structure of government. But I can work where I want, travel around the country when I want, speak relatively freely about politics, I’m guaranteed healthcare, an 8 hour day…

@MercianManatee @ligertail I'm very fulfilled, thank you. I just care about the safety of my family and the legacy of my nation, which I'm sure are also immoral values to you.

@Sampaio2Saul @ligertail Not that different? I’m not sure which country you live in but mine at least pretends to be a democracy and offers far greater legal protections for average people than the peasantry experience. It’s all comparative, nobles feast while peasants starve.

@MercianManatee @ligertail I guess? Its a different political system but not that different from our own, and the peasants live a hard life, but everyone there does according to our standards

@Apothee_Oses @ligertail Well it wouldn’t be Dany. She might abolish slavery or make things slightly less shit but substantive regime change is more in the vein of the high sparrow. It would be cool to see the long night lead to the small folk overthrowing the feudal order as the nobles get weaker.

@MercianManatee @ligertail They are barely scrapping by themselves man, the north fucking sucks for everybody. Also, the starks seem to rule faurly for everyone, there is no record of dissident inside the region beyond one or two bolton fuck ups

@souljagoyteller As others have pointed out literally any other Bolshevik with a shred more humanity (not hard) and more intelligence than Stalin (even less difficult) would have helmed a far more prosperous Soviet Union. Simply by virtue of not bending to reactionaries and orchestrating disaster

@souljagoyteller Stalinism (as a cultural movement of Russian chauvinism) literally killed the soviet unions ideological potential and completely kneecapped it in the patriotic war. Individually Stalin’s decision making in the war was disastrous and helped cause untold suffering.

In all seriousness, if you want to make the case for “a great leader, despite all the despicable things they did”, the correct answer is Stalin or Mao
Ben Dreyfuss@bendreyfuss

The funniest thing about the “aside from the mass killings, Hitler was a great leader” people is that…no he wasn’t? He led Germany into unimaginable ruin? He was a paranoid loser who overruled his best generals time and time again to disastrous effect?
