When Britain's Parliament passed the New Zealand Constitution Act in 1852, their assumption was that most Māori would not be subject to the authority of the NZ Parliament to be established under it but would instead continue to govern their own affairs under section 71.

@HaydenDonnell I was obsessed with these magazines as a kid, my granny had stacks of them. Kind of outrageous now to think I was 12 reading in graphic detail about people being raped and stabbed

I've been fascinated for ages by this magazine that catalogues the most depraved horrors wrought by man alongside pictures of grinning stock image models and the derisive quip 'that's life!'. Today my story on this literary genre is up, only on Webworm webworm.co/p/thatslife

Thinking about how two cops in Christchurch rammed the mosque terrorist's car off the road and arrested him even while they thought he and the car might be rigged to explode. But 19 Texas cops wait an hour to breach a classroom while the gunman keeps shooting kids.
amna@IAmAmnaNawaz

The #Uvalde timeline offered by Texas officials right now is gutting. There were 19 police officers in the hallway who made the decision not to break into the room, at the same time children inside were alive and calling 911. One begged “please send police now.”

Over the weekend, I had the pouri experience of triggering someone's language trauma. Of assuming because they were Māori, they spoke te reo Māori, and seeing them shrink away with whakamā when I asked them if they wanted to choose a waiata. When just moments earlier they 1/6
