With the strong #BlackLivesMatter and #IndigenousLivesMatter movements, I thought I'd help by addressing some of the popularized misconceptions around Indigenous people and prairie farming. We know that serious systemic racism exists, and it exists strongly in ag communities.

I have a huge fascination with rocks. As a farmer, rocks are what we remove from agricultural land to seed and harvest more effectively. So a lot of farms have rock piles at the edges of fields — or, as in this case, piled on a whopper as nucleus. We farm around. #rockpile

Yes, I know that there are innovations coming — and needed — in agriculture. What I know is this: We still plant seed into thousands of acres across Canada, add water/rain, germinate/grow/finish, and be harvested. The acres — and the window — haven’t changed that much.
