#VAWG | This is Sophie Parrish. She is a survivor of online deepfake abuse. Sophie is sharing her experience to highlight the growing reality of tech-enabled abuse and its real world impact Today marks the launch of the fourth phase of our #TakingAction campaign, focusing on tech-enabled abuse. Previous phases have reached tens of thousands of people across the region and have driven increased awareness of domestic abuse and coercive control, stalking behaviours and sexual violence. Tech-enabled abuse can include unwanted messages, online threats, sharing images without consent, tracking someone’s location, or accessing personal accounts without permission. These behaviours cause real fear and harm. The campaign aims to help women recognise the red flags, understand when digital behaviour crosses a line, and know that support is available. Tech-enabled abuse is a form of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), and it is a crime. We want to recognise Sophie’s courage and bravery in sharing her lived experience. Speaking out is never easy, but by doing so she is helping others recognise the signs of abuse and showing victims that they are not alone ❤️

@MerseyPolice Why? What’s the cause? If you explain who we should be protecting ourselves against we have a better chance of not being attacked. Serious question - who is attacking British people?

The UK terrorist threat level has been raised to SEVERE – meaning an attack is highly likely. For you, the public, this means remaining alert but not alarmed. Within policing we will continue to work, day and night, to keep you safe. If you see anything that doesn’t feel right, trust your instinct and tell staff, security, a police officer, or call 101. You can also report anonymously online at gov.uk/ACT or call 0800 789 321. In an emergency, always call 999. #ActionCountersTerrorism

Our #ProjectServator officers deployed in Southport and at @LFC Anfield today. These patrols are different to normal police operations. We've been using this specialist tactic throughout Merseyside since 2018 and it is regularly part of our protective security measures for large events, which are planned for many months. The aim is to disrupt a variety of criminality, including terrorism, while providing a reassuring presence for the public. The deployments use uniformed and plain-clothes officers who are specially trained to spot the tell-tale signs that someone may have criminal intent such as gathering information to help them plan or prepare to commit a crime. Officers will also liaise with staff and speak to members of the public to encourage vigilance and the reporting of suspicious activity. With concerts scheduled at LFC's Anfield stadium and the 154th Open 🏌🏻‍♂️ at @royalbirkdale this summer, it's not too early for officers to pop up at these locations and use a variety of tactics including vehicle checkpoints to disrupt criminal activity. If you see a Project Servator deployment, feel free to talk to officers and find out how you can help keep people safe by reporting anything you see or hear that doesn't feel right to staff, security or a police officer, or by calling 101. In an emergency, always call 999. For more ℹ about Project Servator, visit the force website: orlo.uk/N8GxT

@ScouseTims Hi thanks for your comment. Arrests and asset seizures aren’t a one‑to‑one thing. An arrest doesn’t automatically mean there’s cash to seize. Some cases involve no proceeds at all, and others take months or years before assets are recovered. Thank you.

We have today, Monday 27 April, welcomed the sentencing of a Wirral man for rape. Ross Fyles, 28, of The Woodlands, Tranmere, was found guilty of three counts of rape, two counts of s47 assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an imitation firearm and stalking with fear of violence following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court. Today he was jailed for a total of 16 years with an additional three years on extended licence. Detective Constable Patrick Shaw said: “Fyles denied the allegations but was found guilty by a jury following trial. “His actions have had a considerable impact on his victim and it is right that he is now behind bars for a considerable amount of time as a result. “I would like to take this opportunity to praise the victim for her bravery and resilience throughout the investigation and court process. “We would always encourage anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence to have the courage to come forward and speak to us. “We have specially trained officers and will provide all the necessary support throughout the investigation, court process and beyond.” If you have been a victim of sexual assault or rape, you can access specialist support services, which are free of charge and available to anyone. You do not need a referral or to have reported an incident to Merseyside Police before you access these specialist support services. These services can support you in a variety of ways, including offering a confidential discussion if you are thinking of making a police report, but are unsure what that involves and would like to discuss it. You can choose to make an anonymous report through the Sexual Assault Referral Centre called Safe Place, or the Independent Sexual Violence Advisor service, rather than coming directly to Merseyside Police. With no police involvement, a specialist doctor at Safe Place can examine you to check that you are ok and look for DNA evidence, which they will store to support your case. This gives you the option of making a formal police report at a later time, if you choose to. Support is also available in Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral, from Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (RASA) Merseyside who are available on 0151 558 1801 and, in St Helens and Knowsley, by the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC) Cheshire and Merseyside who can be contacted on 01925 221 546 or 0330 363 0063. If you do not require immediate police assistance, then you can report rape and sexual assault via our website here: orlo.uk/SBnfL Support is also available through the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Victim Care Merseyside service: Home: Victim Care Merseyside Read more about out Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) campaign, which aims to put the voices of women and girls at the heart of our work to tackle VAWG. You can find out more about the campaign here: orlo.uk/8gQ4l
