🎉 We just released Rotate Object in Photoshop (beta) 🎉 You can now rotate 2D images! 🤯 Then use Harmonize to add light and shadows, to blend it perfectly with the rest of the scene. It's like Turntable in Illustrator, but instead of vectors, it's pixels in Photoshop!

This is how copyright works for us in AI. I know, I copyrighted a film in October to prevent my ex-coworkers from using or profiting on it anymore, which they were. I have first hand knowledge of the process, it happens exactly the same, you must submit human authorship documentation and then it’s acceptable. It is incorrect to think anything with AI in it is not copyrightable, even fully AI content. Fully AI doesn’t mean the entire project is AI, that can apply to a litany of use cases where AI generated the content but without the intermediary artist applying conceptual and artistic additions, cannot progress to final output. This isn’t rocket science.

Dustin Hollywood@dustinhollywood

This is misleading. It is copyrightable if you used it in human creation workflows with third party apps and can show it just assisted like a tool and wasn’t the only tool.

I just shared an update on Adobe Animate over on reddit (/r/adobeanimate), and given the conversations on X, wanted to also share here. Its a bit long, as there is a lot of info, so I also included a screenshot of the core info on Animate. TLDR: We have made some changes to to our plans for Adobe Animate, and it will continue to be available for both new and existing users Hey everyone, my name is Mike Chambers, and I work on the community team at Adobe (and am a long time Flash / Animate user). Yesterday, Adobe shared an email with Adobe Animate customers on the future of Animate. What we shared did not meet our standards and caused a lot of confusion and angst within the community. On behalf of Adobe, I want to apologize. While an email to all Animate customers will go out shortly, I wanted to quickly share a few things: 1) our standard approach for applications in maintenance mode, 2) changes to our plans for Adobe Animate and its status, and 3) our commitments to ensuring that you always have access to your content, regardless of the state of development of an application. Standard Approach for Applications in Maintenance Mode If we deprioritize active development of an application, our approach is to move that application into maintenance mode with continued support. Under maintenance mode, the application will continue to be available, will continue to receive security and bug fixes, but will not get new features. If we decide to go a step further and discontinue a product, we will work closely with the community to ensure they have adequate time to plan in order to minimize disruption and will take steps so that the community continues to have long-term access to their content. Current State of Adobe Animate Adobe Animate is in maintenance mode. While we are no longer adding new features to Animate, we will continue to support it and provide ongoing security and bug fixes. More importantly, Animate will continue to be available for both new and existing users. This is a change from what we communicated in the email yesterday for the status of Adobe Animate, its time-frame, and availability. To be clear, we are not discontinuing or removing access to Adobe Animate and it will continue to be available to both existing and new customers. Commitments for long-term content/file Access For Adobe Animate, our commitment is to work with the community to ensure users continue to have long term access to their content, regardless of the state of development of the application. On a personal note, as someone who started their career with Macromedia Flash 3 and Macromedia Generator, Adobe Animate has a special place in my heart. I know how frustrating and stressful this has been and we clearly could have handled and communicated this better. I might not have answers to everything, but I will try to answer any questions you might have.

Lets find non-AI alternatives, they already alienated their main user base by not only implementing Gen AI but training their models OFF YOUR WORK. They backed off for now, but they will find something else to cut to sustain their AI investments.

@mesh @CardanoNoodz It does say plans are changed, but also Adobe's account is saying stuff like "the communication is inaccurate" which implies it never was, when it was at the time. I don't envy your position in all this. Kind of a terrible situation to have to be the messenger for.

@mesh @CardanoNoodz I know, that's what I mean. It was going to be discontinued, the decision was reversed. Just saying how certain communications since are meant to confuse this so people think it was all a misunderstanding. Nobody's mad at an email, they're mad at the actual info that was in it.

@CardanoNoodz @mesh This is actually a carefully worded sentence to imply the initial email was just poorly worded and they never wanted to axe animate, but without actually saying that because it would be a lie. The initial email wasn't poorly worded, they just changed their decision.

Just one last crappy animation in memoriam... Flash, when we met in college, I hated you. I hoped I'd never have to see your interface again. Then later, when I ran into you on the job, I grudgingly accepted a working relationship with you, and that developed over the years into something resembling fondness. You were always buggy, crashed all the time, and had features that never worked the way they were supposed to, but goshdarnit- you made the internet fun and you made so much work manifest for so many animators. We rallied to defend you when Adobe refused for YEARS to acknowledge you were an animation program and not a web design program. (Oh the bitter irony when they later rebranded you as "Animate!) You fell behind the times, got outstripped by competitors, but somehow I never thought you'd go away. But here we are, saying good-bye. Adobe could have made you glorious, but then, they never did see the potential that we animators saw in you. Farewell, old friend. Here's to one last crash for old time's sake- the final crash. May you finally know peace and your code become open source in the great beyond. #Flash #MacromediaFlash #AdobeFlash #Adobe #AdobeAnimate

I feel used. I’ve been a cheerleader for #AdobeAnimate @adobeanimate since its inception… when everyone else was saying “It looks cheap,” I was insisting, “No no no… it’s all in how you USE it!” And I was right. “Flash” (as I will always call it) has been an amazing tool. When everyone else decided that ToonBoom was the promised land, I stuck with Flash. For those who knew how to use it, you could make professional level animation with a minimal budget and a crew of one. I understand that things change, and I’ve always advised that we should never rely too heavily on any ONE program, but to abruptly and unceremoniously yank the plug this way is a slap in the face to everyone who made the software a success. There was a right way to do this and a wrong way to do it. @Adobe picked the absolute worst way to do it.

Original plan was to discontinue Animate, and it would stop working after a certain date. What changed is we 1) are not discontinuing Animate, 2) it will continue to be available to install and use for new and existing users, and 3) if we do ever discontinue it, we will ensure you can still access your content.

Truly vile that @Adobe are opting to kill Animate/Flash with no contingencies in place for the thousands of animators (including EVERY SINGLE ONE I work with) who are going to lose access to the program they've been mastering for up to 3 decades. This is an industry-killing move.
