An absolutely insane run for next week from the GEM this morning, low to mid 30s almost EVERYWHERE across England! That is record breaking heat and literally unheard of for the time of year, where the current record stands at around 32c A reminder that we are still in meteorological spring, and we're staring down the barrel of mid summer heat * This is **not** a forecast

I'm not saying it vanishes, i am simply saying the difference in temperature is negligible, sure the urban heat island is a real thing, but it only raises temperatures by a couple of degrees, it would still be hot in that area regardless of whether there was a major city or a farmers field

@MetChasers 5000 to 10000MW energy being used in London won't just vanish. That's around 150,000,000kWh every day. Where are you suggesting the heat vanishes to?

@Stewart09322559 I think you fail to understand how much energy it takes to cause significant warming in a particular area, a few jet engines isn't going to push temps significantly above the average of the nearby street

@MetChasers And coinciding with bank holiday and half term too! The weather gods dropped the ball on this one.

@MetChasers A reminder, too, that the GEM is complete bobbins when it comes to temperature forecasts!

@Gazby77 Never said anything about summer, just that its record breaking heat for meteorological spring, which is a fact, 33+ has never been seen in the UK during may, but yeah for all we know summer could be cool and wet, the weather is fun like that, brilliant observation from you

@MetChasers Another scare mongering post. Even if this verifies, it's no indication of what type of Summer we'll have. If you know anything about Meteorology you should know that. Next week is less than week from Summer anyway. Funny how all these 'heat' accounts disappear in October.

@Gazby77 We will survive, but its still record breaking heat for may, and its not super ideal for crops and plants going from frosty at times to intense heat within a week

@MetChasers If I recall it was like this from April for a few weeks (through May) during 2020’s first Lockdown. I remember vividly when we were “allowed” to start going out again that the public park I was fishing at was full of people swimming (even though the water was still very cold)

Hot summer? High pressure looks likely to be with us for the foreseeable with continued bouts of warm weather advecting north into the UK, temperatures again dependent on cloud cover, high pressure positioning etc but broadly speaking a dry and settled outlook. AAM looks to continue to sit in a positive state, especially with the recent MJO transition through phase 6 and into 7, these compositing to high pressure generally meandering over the UK, sometimes further west sometimes further east. i.e a very dry outlook for the foreseeable. As the phase 7 begins to filter through I wouldn't be too surprised to see signs of a cut off Iberian low developing sometime into early June, naturally this brings the prospect of further hot weather alongside thunderstorm activity. Essentially "steady as we are" for the next 1-2 weeks. Weather patterns look to continue remaining "stuck" or slow moving, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this were to become the broader pattern throughout summer. The likelihood of a warmer than average summer with some potentially hot or very hot bursts of heat into the UK is higher than normal.

After what has been a chilly spell of weather, we are going to get our first taste of summer Any memory of a "cool" may will fade into the past Locally, for my county "heatwave" threshold could be reached depending on the exact temps, where i require 3 consecutive days of 25c
