@ThoseWhoRule We had the same dilemma. We took a look at how we wanted the game to feel, since we wanted more of an OG Fallout 2 feeling, we decided to go initiative based. I think it really depends on a couple of factors, such as the size of the party and the design of your combat abilities.

I'm realizing it's not a great experience to have initiative based on a randomly growing stat in the long run. So in my classic indecisiveness I pose the question to you all: Which turn system do you enjoy more, initiative based (FFT, Tactics Ogre) or squad based (FE, XCOM)?

@AdaluteGames Now granted our entire game is based on a fixed tile backend collision grid system, so the XY is the 2D grid system and not the screen XY values. I suppose that could work as well but we have more control this way.

@AdaluteGames We aren't using Unity but here is our process. Each object in our game calcs a unique value based on its XY position & assigns it a sort value. If an object moves it recalcs & assigns a new sort value. The higher or lower value then determines if it is in front or behind the wall

@NMAfallout @YoYoGames I can't speak to other games but for Project Kenora, our Indigipunk story and lore is inspired by our ancestry, which is largely Métis/Nehiyawak. We would share more but that would spoil the fun.

@NMAfallout @YoYoGames It's a mix of Cyberpunk and Indigenous futurisms. Shadowrun would be a familiar game somewhat close to this concept. If you are into table top RPGs Coyote & Crow is a good example. In our case with Project Kenora, there are Indigenous themes rooted in the story, setting, and lore
