It was an empowering step forward in supporting the mental health of RISD students and families! This week, RISD celebrated the grand opening of the new Richardson ISD MetroCare clinic, housed at the Thurgood Marshall Student Success Academy. This partnership with @Metrocare Services brings accessible school-based and home-based mental health care resources to our community. Available services include 1-on-1 skills sessions, intervention, and clinical assessments, as well as mental health awareness and education. Thanks to @LMcBee4Dallas for moderating today’s Dallas Breakfast Group panel, The Health of Dallas County: A Conversation on Mental and Behavioral Health. Great discussion with @Parkland and @Metrocare about the upcoming Community Health Needs Assessment, conducted once every three years by Parkland and developed with @DCHHS. We covered behavioral health, chronic disease, access to care, and how we can work together for a healthier Dallas County!

Today I hosted a health care roundtable at @texashealth Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas — bringing together hospital leaders, physicians, and community providers from across North Texas to talk about what’s really happening in our health care system. We talked about the issues that make care less affordable and less accessible for families — from the expiration of enhanced premium tax credits and cuts to reimbursement rates, to the challenges hospitals face keeping nurses and staff on the job. Participants also raised the need for stronger guardrails on prior authorization, better oversight of Medicare Advantage plans, and investments in navigator programs that help patients understand their coverage options. We also heard ideas for reopening rural hospitals as emergency facilities to keep care closer to home — and for supporting the workforce we rely on to make that possible. These are the conversations that help shape real solutions. I’m grateful to Texas Health, @Parkland , @childrens , Healing Hands Ministries, @Metrocare , and all the leaders who joined us to share their experiences and insight.
