Francisco Alvarez left tonight’s game early with back tightness, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. Mendoza called it precautionary and added that Alvarez said he would have continued playing if it was the regular season. Alvarez is not scheduled to play tomorrow.

Kodai Senga finished his spring with seven consecutive scoreless innings, striking out nine and walking one over that stretch. He topped out at 97.3 mph tonight and has been up to 99 mph in Grapefruit League play. Senga needed to make a spring statement, and he made it.

Francisco Alvarez was removed from tonight's game in the top of the fourth inning. Jose Aular entered in his spot as a pinch hitter. On the Mets' lineup card this morning, Alvarez was scheduled to play all nine innings tonight. Alvarez struck out swinging in his first AB. He was behind the plate catching Kodai Senga for the first three innings on defense.

When Mendoza addressed this earlier in spring, he said the plan “right now” was to keep Bichette at 3B to get reps there, not that SS was off the table. Both he & Stearns left it as something that would be revisited, if there was a need or if it made sense from a roster construction standpoint.

@Metsmerized This scenario was discussed before about the possibility of Bichette playing shortstop if Lindor was unavailable for any reason and Mendoza stated that Bo would stay at third base. Now he’s stating the exact opposite. Be professional and stick to what you say.
