A PSA for people playing Regional Qualifiers. Specifically main events. TR 701.1.l. Judges are human and they make mistakes. Please do no be shy to (once a judge has given their ruling) politely ask to appeal the ruling if you don't agree. Every RQ is staffed with 1 HJ and multiple support judges. Their roles are to support the Head Judge as well as take appeals. They are all "head judge level" with the actual HJ with final say. I promise you however there is enough appeals judges around to make sure the thing that is deciding who wins, is who plays the best riftbound.

Every appeal I made at Vegas ended with another judge giving an incorrect ruling, to the point where I had to go directly to UVS myself. And because I wasn’t judging the event, I couldn’t override the judges on the floor. That’s exactly the problem: these events are being staffed with people who don’t fully understand the game, and as a result, they’re spreading incorrect rulings. That’s actually worse than a single bad call, because those mistakes ripple outward. Players go back to their locals saying, “Well, a judge at X event ruled it this way, so that must be correct,” and suddenly misinformation becomes the new standard. It creates mass confusion.

Simple is relative. I thought the Deathgrip ruling was simple myself, but people needed clarification for it. I made this post to inform players of their options in these spots. Appeals are there for a reason. UVS/Riot will handle judge training and ecosystem and there is alot in the pipeline.

Skirmishes are where they should learn and the judges should be vetted and if you want a better system its pretty simple to judge a RQ or higher they should have another exam much harder than the other judge test to test the lvl of knowledge the judges have and the ones with the highest score get picked simple.

@MewgiTCG @xogremlyn I'm not saying the judge team is perfect, I make mistakes too. There is just a proper way to go about it to make sure judges are trained and confident enough and we have enough of them worldwide.

The judge team is trained to confirm with another judge before issuing a ruling if they are not 100% correct. Also the change to the Arena's Greatest trigger was changed in the not most recent rules update but the one before. Again over 200 people on Staff/Judge, with time it'll get better. I don't think there is 200 people in every region who are rules experts yet. Game is too new, but OP is needed for the game to be healthy. So we are in the growing page section. And again that same judge prolly crushed hundreds of rulings before that call. Does that make them a bad judge cause they wanted to confirm a ruling before issuing it?

if you’re a judge, you should know the rules. I can understand mistakes on complicated rulings, but when it comes to simple, well‑established interactions especially ones covered by errata or updated rules there’s really no excuse. It’s literally their job to stay current and apply those rulings correctly. Someone shared a situation where their opponent missed Arenas greatest trigger. When it became their turn, they remembered their trigger and got their point. The first player said, “Oh, I forgot mine too,” and Second player called a judge. The judge couldn’t answer, checked their phone, brought over another judge, and the ruling ended up giving the point to the first player. This ruling has been in place for over four months: if you miss the trigger and go through your whole turn without remembering, you don’t get the point. It’s that simple. So how are judges still getting basic, long‑established rulings wrong?

So let me ask you this. Are we going to talk about the hundreds of calls these same judges take that they get right over the weekend? Or only focus on the 1-2 they get wrong. I'd argue that's a pretty good level of consistency. That being said it's up to everyone, players, and judges to help continue to push the level of these events higher and higher. Pointing fingers and jumping down peoples throats is not it. (not saying this is what you're doing by the way!)

It’s not because of that in any way the test was way to easy and just about anyone is now a judge and the judge discord at that is a joke as well people asking stupid questions in I agree the changing of things is annoying but the mistakes that are made by judges at these events even the HJ are unacceptable

Just to clarify, this mistake is TOTALLY on judges side Dont blame the player that even asked a normal judge about it

I’m playing the riftbound rebound event. I played imperial decree. I attack my 1 might unit into a 2 might unit (OPP is playing Draven). I tried to explain that he no longer draws a card due to how combat resolution was updated recently. We call a judge just to clarify. The judge rules the same. It is appealed and the head judge reverses the ruling and says opponent draws a card. 8 minute time extension. Opponent draws 2 extra cards this turn and I lose despite trying my best to keep their draws from combat. I lose in game 2 as well because I take a different line than decree-ing and chump attacking and get punished on the spot. Anyways, this was ruled differently yesterday for me. Can someone please tell me how this is supposed to freaking work 😭😅

@50kJoey I’ve always believed that cards countered are not considered played for Darius, Legion, Ravenbloom. Is it that it now changed to this or just clarified?

Im really not a fan of this rules update to Legion, it just doesn’t make intuitive sense, which I feel is the opposite of how rules should impact the game. Is there a reason this needed to be done or why it’s better? My trip up is, legion says “when another card is played this turn” Countered cards aren’t played. I get the “finalized on the chain” thing, but that feels so much like a “trust me bro” thing thats just gonna cause issues

I'm calling it now that this card gets banned Feels like it's a set 5 card that was printed too soon. With minimal setup, it's literally just a free draw 2, but better Surely a 0 mana draw card has never been broken before... right? :)

I'm not sure if Ezreal survives without called shot or fof. And scrapheap ban just to make sure we can't augment our draw. Not sure which direction to take it
