Op-ed by @KatySorenson: "In Miami-Dade, a new and authentic leader has stepped up to chair the local Democratic party. Her name is Laura Kelley. She’s smart and dedicated to turning things around in our county. And there’s nowhere to go but up." More @ #storylink=cpy" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">miamiherald.com/opinion/op-ed/…

For generations, the Cuban dictatorship has repressed those who speak out for freedom. Today’s announcement that 51 prisoners will be released brings hope to many families. But true justice will come when no one in Cuba is jailed for their beliefs and Cuba is free.

"Democrats are laser-focused on what really matters: building a more affordable Florida for all of us. No one has to lose for all of us to win." Check out Leader Lori Berman's response to the governor's State of the State speech here: thefloridachannel.org/videos/1-13-26…

This tragedy is not isolated. We cannot and will not continue to allow ICE to terrorize our communities. Now more than ever, we must come together and fight these blatant acts of state violence. This cannot and will not be our normal.

We approved a plaque to honor the officers who responded on January 6th. Speaker Johnson refuses to display it, so I have a replica outside of my office for people to visit. The Capitol Police kept us safe that day, as they do every day. They deserve to be recognized.

Five years ago today, Donald Trump urged his supporters to attack Congress and the Capitol over a proven lie. More than 140 police officers were injured. Trump then pardoned the attackers. He betrayed his oath and his country, and we won't ever forget it.

Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick defended Congress from a violent mob on January 6, 2021. After being attacked by rioters, Officer Sicknick passed away the following night.   Today, my thoughts are with Officer Sicknick’s loved ones and all of the brave first responders who defended our Capitol.

January 6th participant Pamela Hemphill, who refused President Trump's pardon: "Once I got away from the MAGA cult and started educating myself about January the 6th, I knew what I did was wrong...I am guilty, and I own that guilt...I had fallen for the president’s lies."

America, we can never move on from the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol until there is real accountability. This was the most direct attack on our democracy in my lifetime, yet every perpetrator has been pardoned. It’s up to us to keep standing up for what’s right.

📺 WATCH: @JoeBiden speaking on January 6, 2021, as the attack was unfolding. He called it exactly what it was in real time: an insurrection. “To storm the Capitol, to smash windows, to occupy offices, the floor of the United States Senate, rummaging through desks … on the Capitol, on the House of Representatives, threatening the safety of duly elected officials. It’s not protest, it’s insurrection. The world’s watching." “The words of a president matter. At their best, the words of a president can inspire. At their worst, they can incite.” That this country could reelect a man who incited an attack on the Capitol to stop the peaceful transfer of power is staggering. I will never understand it. It will be a stain on our country for the entirety of our being.
