@Aaron_Torres The "they don't belong" narrative from the CFP has roared into CBB chatter. If you aren't a big brand team from a big brand conference, "people" think you aren't on the same level, that you didn't play anyone. So they push this talking point of less talented or not deserving.

@coach28373 @EnthusiAdams Just that the NIT & CBI were those tournaments, but money/narrative spun them into irrelevant. Let's take Spring FB. We WANT more pro ball, until we get it, then we say "they aren't NFL good" & people ignore it. If the NIT & CBI are viewed the same, we go nowhere w/the idea.

I don't see how any of this is an argument against a second tournament with the top mid majors who miss the tourney/are eliminated the first weekend

NIT should become the mid major national championship. 32 teams to include all conferences outside BIG10/BIGE/BIG12/ACC/SEC.
Start tournament after 1st round of NCAA. Mid majors who lose 1st round join the bracket. Play the championship game at the site of the Final 4. DO IT!

Scott Strode, owner of BlueChips Global, was denied media access to the WVSSAC @wvssac State Boys Basketball Tournament despite having 332 Prep Hoops articles published on West Virginia high school players and having been approved in both 2024 and 2025.
That decision is difficult to understand.
Coverage matters. Exposure matters. The people who consistently invest time, energy, and effort into highlighting student-athletes and supporting the game should be valued, not dismissed.
Scott Strode has documented West Virginia basketball, promoted its athletes, and contributed meaningful media coverage. To deny access after that body of work sends the wrong message to independent media and to those who work to elevate high school sports.

@coach28373 @EnthusiAdams The NIT was media spun into what its become. Same for college bowls. Yes, the CBI & NIT are money grabs, but media heads literally called it the Not Important Tournament. It today's world of big $$ college sports, the lesser sports and smaller schools getting fewer chances.

@coach28373 @EnthusiAdams Because the first response these days is "they don't belong." They hammered that point home with JMU during FB, now with Miami (OH) in BB. They are each D1 schools, same level as Big Brand XYZ. They should not have play in a different tournament, nor is it fair to suggest it.

@jdicarlo Temple football is like many that now languish at the top level. I think we'll see a surge of schools dropping down to I-AA for football in the coming years, or a whole new tier created for the non G4 schools.

So in this scenario, Aaron, Temple would have to ask the American Conference to be a football-only member (doubt it), ask the Atlantic 10 if they could come back and hope this all makes sound financial sense. Have you looked at any of the financials or logistics on this?

A lot of reaction to this Tweet about Temple basketball, much of it to do with the football program. It is a complicated issue with no easy answers. The Owls have a long tradition of football, and I think it should continue. But I don't think Temple football should be prioritized over Temple basketball. Basketball is the brand. That's what made Temple a national name. There are multiple NCAA banners hanging in the Liacouras. John Chaney is a legend. This is Temple's brand. Build on it. Getting good in basketball again will have a positive waterfall effect for the University, in terms of school spirit, increased admissions, increased donations, increased media attention, and bettering the brand. I think all of this will outweigh whatever football TV money is coming in. You can't put a $ price on all of this. Basketball is the way to go for Temple. I think the Atlantic 10 would be a place to get Temple back to Temple. Have an NIL budget right behind VCU, Dayton, and Saint Louis. Play the hardest possible nonconference schedule you can get in today's environment. Dominate the conference. Get to the NCAA tournament on a near-yearly basis. This is doable. Obviously, a P5 conference would be even better for Temple, but I just don't see that happening. Thanks for everyone who added their thoughts. Respect them all. Welcome to hear more.

Why does everyone with status or a special need/recognition get to board the plane first, but it's a free for all at landing? Are they any less special or have less needs by then? At what point do airlines offer an up charge option for deplaning ahead of others?
