After 11 years, you would think people would understand how Trump operates. Yes, it was blunt and to our American ears, over the top. It's Trump's crude way of speaking. But it was also fluent Farsi. It's the one language the Iranian leaders understand. It's the language of the Middle East. Trump wasn't speaking to us, he was speaking to Iran. Twenty-four hours before he said it, the Iranians opposed a cease fire. After he said it, they were for a ceasefire. Btw, for 47 years we heard them chant "Death to America." Where were you then?

À tous deux, j’ai indiqué que leur décision d’accepter un cessez-le-feu était la meilleure possible. J’ai exprimé mon espoir que le cessez-le-feu soit pleinement respecté par chacun des belligérants, sur tous les terrains d’affrontement, y compris au Liban. C’est une condition nécessaire pour que ce cessez-le-feu soit crédible et durable. Il doit ouvrir la voie à une négociation d’ensemble permettant d’assurer la sécurité de tous au Moyen-Orient. Tout accord devra apporter des réponses aux inquiétudes que suscitent les programmes nucléaire et balistique de l’Iran mais aussi sa politique régionale et ses mesures d’entrave à la navigation dans le détroit d’Ormuz. C’est ainsi qu’une paix robuste et durable pourra être bâtie, avec le concours de tous ceux qui peuvent y contribuer. Ma questi imparziali e onesti giornalisti sanno benissimo che con mio padre ho interrotto ogni rapporto all’età di 11 anni. Così come sanno benissimo che, in decenni di impegno politico, esistono decine di migliaia di foto mie con persone che chiedono semplicemente un selfie. E ciò vale per chiunque faccia politica e stia in mezzo alla gente. E sfido chiunque a trovare mie dichiarazioni o attacchi contro altri esponenti politici colti nelle stesse circostanze. Il mio impegno contro ogni mafia è cristallino, coerente, duraturo. E ciò che abbiamo fatto al governo ne è la prova. Mentre altri liberavano dalle galere i boss mafiosi con la scusa del Covid, noi li arrestiamo e li teniamo dentro con il carcere duro, istituto che abbiamo salvato dallo smantellamento. Differenze. Ma a questi “professionisti dell’informazione” non importa niente. Tutto serve a gettare fango nel ventilatore e a fare da grancassa mediatica agli interessi di partito. Nessun giornalismo, solo politica. Poco importa. Non sono una persona che si fa intimidire dagli squallidi attacchi di gente in malafede.
