The null hypothesis is almost always wrong. We all know the alternative is true. Why is it "good science" to assume that it isn't?

@TheRealMerb Now that I've slept on it, I think I made a mistake. My first draft of the tweet was "That's a good point. But I don't think 'The Hitler Classic' has a good ring to it." I played it safe. I guess I know that, if I were in the peloton, I wouldn't be brave enough to go for it.

(On going out hard and dying) Cycling: What an incredibly brave performance! He rode heroically for 150km and his team will be proud of the way he attacked the climbs. The strength of the peloton was too much but so much promise for this young rider Running: Wow very dumb idiot

This is what's wrong with fans today. Just because you pay to see a movie, the people in it owe you nothing but a good performance. You don't own people because their work makes them public figures/highly visible. They perform, you pay to see it. That's the exchange.
Cliff Bleszinski@therealcliffyb

This whole Anthony Mackie stuff pisses me off. You're a public figure. You signed up for it and made millions off of it. Sure, you worked hard for it, but fans (paparazzi aside) paid you those millions. Get over yourself, dude.

@HeyJordanR Who would you prefer to win the lottery? Indiana, Phoenix, LA, or Seattle? As a Storm fan, the pairing with Loyd would be so much fun.

With this news about expansion in 2025, I have mixed feelings about Caitlin Clark. She’s pro ready; I want her to play in the W in 2024, but it would be smart to build a new franchise around her in 2025 as a rookie. Thoughts? 🤔
The Athletic@TheAthletic

Iowa women's basketball star Caitlin Clark said she is “going to treat this year like this is my last year.” Clark can use a fifth year in 2024-25 or go to the WNBA. “I’m going to trust my gut and go with that.”

@kpeltonWBB And these assists are giving her teammates the ball in-stride, as they dash towards the rim. The court vision has been awesome to watch.

Loudest Climate Pledge has gotten all night, as Caitlin Clark hits a 3 and then converts a layup off a steal and score. She celebrates with Kate Martin around halfcourt as Colorado takes a timeout. Clark now has 20 points

@maynardandking Thanks for sharing this screenshot. Wouldn't this also mean that anyone North of the current Westlake station would lose direct access to those neighborhoods? Basically, only people on the new Ballard line would have direct access?

@gabecubed Also not thinking about it at all, I feel like it has to do with the distributive property of multiplication.

i haven’t thought about this at all so there’s probably an easy answer, but: multiplication is repeated addition, and exponentiation is repeated multiplication. so why are addition and multiplication (of scalars) commutative but exponentiation is not?

My plane is boarding and families with kids go first. Jealous that they get to escape the xmas music in the terminal, I ask Maya, “what if we have a child, just so that we can get priority boarding.” And she said, “I think that is literally the worst reason to have a child”.

Just finished a seven day hike, where I got into a funny debate with Germans about the height of Denali and Everest. Now, with the aid of wifi, it seems I was correct. But since I’ll never get to tell Phillip and Nadine “I told you so”, I want to share my satisfaction here.

Finished analyzing the results from trick or treating last night! An interesting distribution this year with more clustered arrival times and a smaller overall time window compared to last year. Stormy weather, day of the week, or lack of decorations could all play a role.

@gabecubed If a game 4 is played, the series is 2-1. If A wins, the series ends and the length is 4. If B wins, the series length is 5. The chance that A wins is 50%, so the series lengths are equally likely. Simulation confirms that it’s 25% for length 3 and 37.5% for lengths 4 and 5.

Suppose you’ve got a 5 game series between two teams A and B, first to three wins. Both A and B have equal probability of winning every game. The least likely option is that the series goes to 3 games. Which outcome is more likely?

@MichaelFrasco i meant insane with a positive valence — mostly my point was that it’s really nice when an option i prefer is also cheaper

There should be more wine bars. Every neighborhood has multiple breweries that serve the same beer. I’d love an outdoor seating restaurant that featured wine.
