what's fascinating about bernie's AI stance is that he takes the AI safety view that AI is incredibly powerful quite seriously, whereas lots of people who share bernie's worldview think it's largely a scam

A neat side effect of using AI coding tools is that I now spend more time writing detailed specs, and often the process of writing the spec clarifies my understanding of the problem to the level that I feel like I don’t really need the AI coding tool any more (I still use it, because it’s faster than writing the code myself, but it’s just writing the code I would have written anyway which makes it easier to check that the output is correct).

JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon at an investor cocktail event last night on AI (part 2): "What if, I think there are 2 million commercial truckers in the United States, and there are lots of other examples you can give. There's a thought exercise, and you could push a button, eliminate all of them, and they make $120,000 on average. Save fuel, save lives, save time, a more efficient system, less disrupted highways, all that beautiful stuff. Would you do it if you put 2 million people on the street where even if there are jobs available, that next job is $25,000 a year, stocking shelves. I was saying, "That's kind of really bad, kind of civilly, should we as society agree to that?" I don't think so. I was talking about the business and government, and they should start thinking today, not when it happens, what would we do to deal with the [AI] issue? It's got to be business and government."

at some point in my undergrad, i took an advanced computability course. the premise was: what if we had an Oracle that can solve the halting problem? turns out that, for turing machines with access to it, there will be a new halting problem! and if we had an oracle for that, another. now, extrapolate to AI solving math/cs.

Anthony Edwards’ reaction to being called one of the hottest players in NBA history is pretty great.

head of anthropic’s safeguards research just quit and said “the world is in peril” and that he’s moving to the UK to write poetry and “become invisible”. other safety researchers and senior staff left over the last 2 weeks as well... probably nothing.

deeply fucked that Q comes before R, S, T, U, and V -- put that shit at the end with the other freaks

A new proof reveals a surprising new link between graph theory and the Fourier transform. “It is a little bit like the moon landing or the 4-minute mile,” said Tom Sanders of the University of Oxford. “It’s not clear ahead of time what this is going to open up.” quantamagazine.org/networks-hold-…
