For a lot of people this is fine. “Think horses, not zebras” is great advice when 80% of your patients probably do just have the flu. But this mentality does add a bias that makes a lot of clinicians way worse with complexity because they over-index on what’s common…ignoring the complexity.

I think people have this view of doctors as like, Dr House whose relentless pursuit of truth will stop at nothing to get you the right diagnosis. In reality, most doctors provide the least risky treatment for your most obvious symptoms. That’s it.
