#HistoryClassWithMichael #HistoryofBlackStudies Hi Kids! 👋A snippet! We talk about how Black studies ignited, the movement that imagined and fought for it, and what it means for us today. Then we take a quick trip to a Harlem bookstore that changed the game. Also trampolines..🤦‍♂️

Whole time, it shoulda been “Support Black Workers” not “Support Black Businesses”. That was a terrible solution to the problems we face. It shoulda have always been about the collective as a community and workers, not owners. I’m upset I fell for it myself, but I’ve learned.

“No kings” but an unchecked executive branch, politicized Supreme Court, super-PAC infused election ritual, electoral college…? I’m not a liberal and think US democracy is a sham but it seems to me that those who believe in this should uplift concrete realities not abstract and completely irrelevant metaphors?

I like that this🧵holds both the global hierarchy (core/periphery) and the internal colonial relation (settler state vs. oppressed nations)..So the contradiction isn’t imperialism “only benefits capital” like Hasan’s crude take or “benefits everyone in the core equally.” Gill explains imperialism subsidizes consumption in the core for all classes while that same militarized, finance driven model eats away at working class assets here ..(which hits Black & Indigenous populations hardest).. But the breakdown of that imperial subsidy will be both destabilizing and potentially clarifying bc it removes the cushion and forces real questions of class struggle + decolonization.🔥
Bikrum Gill@bikrumsinghgill

Thread Under capitlaism, imperialism subsidizes credit/consumption across all classes. If US imperialism falls, it will negatively impact all classes if prevailing order remains capitalist, but contradiction is that it will open space for "internal" class and national struggle 1/

This short clip from @bikrumsinghgill on @adnanahusain’s show, brought together so many of the strands I try to hold together in understanding this moment. Take this in on the capitalism, death, Shia Islam and higher unity. 🔥

like toni morrison said,“sometimes you don't survive whole, you just survive in part. but the grandeur of life is that attempt. it’s not about that solution. it is about being as fearless as one can & behaving as beautifully as one can, under completely impossible circumstances.”

Any Black person who supports these white nationalist ICE raids have lost their mind. The same people that are dispossessing indigenous people, again, from their homes/lands, here is the same one that is oppressing, murdering, imprisoning, impoverishing Black people.

The imperialist pigs want what they always want. The land and minerals of Afrca. Hands Off the Congo! Hands off Africa!

#rdc #rwanda: President Trump confirms that the United States will obtain "a large portion of Congo's mineral rights" as part of the peace agreement between the DRC and Rwanda signed this Friday.

Arcadia pressured ICE out—after nearly 12 hours straight of protest! Cops just announced ICE is leaving the hotel and we watched all of them pack up and go. Different people carried the protest throughout the day. Suburban protest in LA is the next stage of this mass movement.

Community members are finding out that more and more ICE agents are staying at Hilton and other hotels across the San Gabriel Valley east of LA. Here is Hilton Garden Inn in the city of Arcadia where protestors are gathered.

@MayorOfLA Does this look like you’re protecting Angelenos? You’ve literally sent LAPD to attack people in the streets. You are fake af, Karen.
People's City Council - Los Angeles@PplsCityCouncil

WATCH: after we got shot last night, our comrade/lawyer @sh4keer went over to ask for the pigs badge number and name. LAPD pig Rick Linton then told Shakeer that he was going to shoot if he kept asking questions. This is unhinged behavior! @MayorOfLA has completely ok’d this!

Like it or not, what some call looting is fundamentally a class issue. The wealthy do not break windows to take things; they exploit labor, extract natural resources, and profit from systemic inequality. When poor people take to the streets and seize what they have long been denied, it is not senseless chaos. It is a reaction to powerlessness. What happened tonight at the Apple store in Los Angeles was not theft. It was an act of redistribution by young people from communities exhausted by the same system that relies on child labor and plunders Congo's cobalt to manufacture those very devices.

The brutal targeting and expulsion of migrants, who are simply fleeing violence and devastation unleashed upon their home countries by the U.S. empire, is a Black issue. Sitting this one out is not an option. 🧵

Brown v. Board (nominally) ended segregation & Dr. King was beaten, harassed, and hounded by those “racist government officials” you ignorant feckless mealy mouthed f*ckin dork. And he was surrounded by Deacons for Defense who were strapped.
Bernie Sanders@BernieSanders

Dr. King defeated racist government officials & ended segregation through disciplined non-violent resistance. Defeating Trumpism, oligarchy & authoritarianism requires that same level of discipline. Violent protests are counterproductive and play right into Trump’s playbook.
