Two years ago I started brainstorming with @MattLesser about the need for a state-level voting rights act in CT. Today, the Connecticut General Assembly passed the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act of CT. This legislation will be the most comprehensive state-level VRA in country.

I am grateful to my supporters, donors, volunteers, and my campaign team (the best in NY). I want to thank Nassau Dems for selecting me as the nominee and supporting my candidacy. Most of all, I am grateful to my family and to my amazing wife Elizabeth.

I’m excited to endorse my friend @KevinThomasNY as the Dem candidate in my new district, SD-6. Kevin is a smart and committed advocate and the leading voice in NY on consumer protection. I was proud to support Kevin when he first ran in 2018 and I’m glad he will be my Senator.

This is the end for now, but I am not going anywhere. I will continue to fight for our community and the issues that drove our campaign.

Specifically, I support a nonpartisan redistricting commission comprised not of political appointees, but a diverse group of qualified experts who are charged with drawing lines free from politics.

We need to adopt a new redistricting process for future cycles that is truly independent. As a Senator, I will push for a new constitutional amendment to adopt a process that will work for voters.

Today the New York Court of Appeals struck down the Congressional and State Senate maps that were adopted under the process established in the 2014 amendments to the New York State Constitution.
