April is one of my favourite months of the year. 2025 was one of my favourite months ever as were 2021, 2020 and 2011. Alas April 2026 is looking like a stinker right now. We'll see how it evolves but this is not a promising ensemble.

On days like these, you really need to appreciate hospitality staff, the busyness is beyond mental today. As someone who works in hospitality, the treatment we get in instances like these is appalling, we try our best. It is not an excuse for verbal abuse or violence towards staff.

A major X6.37 flare has occurred from sunspot region 3590. This is the third X-class flare this region has produced in the last 24 hours and is now the strongest recorded flare from Solar Cycle 25! #spaceweather

So. Tomorrow's snow risk looks a little more broken apart now, with the main area of precipitation moving through Scotland and extreme northern England, and a secondary, more disorganised and more broken apart band through parts of N/NW England.

Nacreous clouds require temperatures of below -78°C to develop, and due to the stratospheric polar vortex being displaced on our side, the conditions have been prime today for such widespread visibility of the phenomena! On the topic of the stratospheric polar vortex, there are suggestions of a warming event taking place in the stratosphere at the end of December and going into the new year, with a strain put on the vortex, possibly displacing it from the pole. Whether this equals to a reversal of zonal winds is yet to be seen, but yesterday's ECMWF update was pretty encouraging. Also important to note that a stratospheric warming event ≠ cold weather in the UK, albeit the risk is generally increased.

I thought I had seen most of it when the 18z GFS came out last night, but no.. ensemble member 13 takes it! One of the most insane charts I've seen, a ~925mb low to the north of the UK moving SE. Lobe of PV just casually digging into Europe.
