A pretty interesting day today as one or two thundery showers could develop in front of an advancing cold front from the west – first starting as a line of elevated convection through SW England and Wales in the early afternoon, but then pushing NE into W England where surface heating could spark a few more cells by late afternoon/early evening. The shallow instability means any storms that develop shouldn’t be too active, but anyone under these showers could receive a good soaking!

Nice convergence zone over central and SW England today which has contributed to the development of heavy showers this afternoon 🌦️

There have been a few lightning strikes around this afternoon, including what appeared to be a fairly active storm for the time of year that recently passed south of Belfast. Lightning risk will continue through the day over Ireland, W Scotland and NW England ⚡️

@UKStormUpdates This was an incredibly loud, singular yet multi pronged strike? Thunder went on for a good 15 seconds. Very deep rumbles and high pitched tearing. It's very weird how it was a singluar strike with no follow ups.
