With activity waning over W Ireland and N England, the focus shifts to SE England tonight into tomorrow morning, where elevated convection moving in from France could bring a few lightning strikes. These storms aren't expected to be as lively as what we've seen today, but a few cells could be active with small hail possible.

WOW - a funnel cloud or likely tornado was spotted near Athenry, County Galway in Ireland this afternoon. Look at that motion!

Thunder and lightning may be imminent for Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the next hour. The large storm has developed just to the west so distant thunder may already be audible from the city centre.

Prolific thunderstorms over N England are producing almost 500 strikes per minute right now, and no doubt dropping large hail judging by recent radar scans. Some of these cells are also displaying supercellular characteristics by deviating to the right of the mean flow.

More Active Thunderstorms have formed over Northern England These going up over the Pennines . Over 129,400 strikes of lightning around / over the British Isles today , added to the 164,00 odd strikes up to 23:30 last night, means there have been 2 day totals of nearly 300,000 lightning strikes.
