Today our campus leaders attended a special dedication ceremony honoring our namesake, Sheriff Walter Moses Burton. A historical marker was unveiled celebrating his legacy as a trailblazing leader and the first Black elected sheriff in the United States!

The Sheriffs are #LevelingUp! I had a great time stopping by Burton Elementary this morning, where learning was hands-on, joyful and fueled by student collaboration. From word challenges to music and art, students showed me what engaged learning looks like in action. And how often do you get to play the ukulele during a regular workday? Every classroom was filled with energy, teamwork and a genuine love for learning. Thank you to Principal Kimberly Charles, the students and staff for the warm welcome. This is me 3 yrs ago today, waking up from my 2nd brain surgery. In the past 6 yrs I’ve had 2 brain surgeries. HE saved me to fight for math equity in all classrooms so when people hate/lie on me, I’m unbothered. What’s your motivation? 💪🏽
