Well, that's not a smart assumption. I have a lot of followers. A lot of people comment on my posts. I don't get notifications -at all- for a significant number of those comments, and I don't have the bandwidth to keep track of all of that mentally without notifications. Another reason I might not answer is because I don't have time or I'm doing other things. My life doesn't revolve around social media, and I don't feel obligated to give strangers on the internet time that should be devoted to other things. Another factor is that many people (I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that this is not you) "ask questions" not because they don't understand and want to learn something, but because they're playing games as a means to starting an argument. I don't waste time on people like that. While not everything in the article applies to this particular situation, I've provided you -a Christian with a Bible- all the information you need to make the distinction you originally asked about. Read the article and the other linked resources, study your Bible, and if you still don't understand, make an appointment with your pastor (assuming he's doctrinally sound) and ask him. That's part of his job. Now, even though I am on vacation, I took the time to respond to your false accusation (about not being able to answer), but I don't have the time or inclination to continue this interaction. I hope you have a wonderful day. Goodbye.♥️

So true, sadly. That's exactly why I put tracts inside books by heretics, so the people who are attracted to them get the *biblical* gospel. Even if they *think* they're saved, God can still use that gospel message to open their eyes to the fact that they aren't. And I pray He does.♥️

@MichelleDLesley Great idea! I would just be afraid that the target audience would already think they are saved, because they once "asked Jesus into their heart." Sadly, too many false converts go to books like these for any spiritual education, instead of going to a biblically sound church.

I guess our experiences impact our perspective. My husband was a worship pastor for 20+ years at several small churches, probably very similar to yours, and we encountered some individuals just like the one you described. But the individuals’ behavior and attitudes were dealt with (as I’m sure you’ve also done) because it was a sinful behavior/attitude in and of *itself,* not because the policy was wrong or needed to be changed due to this spineless, “Oh no! If we blink at people wrong, they’ll never come back!” paradigm. That’s what I’m getting at. A. I’ve dealt with the same kinds of people you have. Let’s be honest - someone who’s THAT offended at being *politely* told “No coffee in the sanctuary,” is the type of person who’s going to wreak havoc on any church s/he joins. B. I still can’t help thinking about new Christians in hard places. The kind of places where identifying as a Christian by being baptized is practically a death sentence. What does Rainer’s perspective say to them? Jesus isn’t some nerdy, anemic weakling just begging people to be His friend. He demands everything, including that we die for Him, if He wills. It’s time we stop coddling sinners and expecting more from them if they want to follow Christ. (I’m not saying *you’re* coddling sinners or anything like that, I’m just venting in general.🙃)

@MichelleDLesley I'm far more concerned with inhospitability among the church member than I am of a lost person who may be overly sensitive. Lack of hospitality in small, older churches (which I've preached in many, and currently pastor) is rampant and distracts from the gospel. 3/

I’m sorry, but if your precious little feelings are so fragile that a church politely asking you not to bring your coffee into the sanctuary is going to traumatize you with “church hurt” forever, you’re not ready for a religion that demands that you die to self, take up your cross, and follow Christ. I’m trying to imagine a Christian in Nigeria, or North Korea, or the Middle East reading this article and what he would say about it. This is lame, even for Rainer.

During the Great Awakening, people trembled under deep conviction of sin after hearing men like Jonathan Edwards and George Whitfield preach of God' wrath and the judgment to come. That is gospel preaching. That trembling was produced by the fear of God's wrath (rightly so) and was accompanied with weeping, repentance, and saving faith. It was not the uncontrolled, hypnotic, gyrations you see in this video. The shaking in this video isn't the result of gospel preaching, repentance, remorse over sin, and fearing God. I can automatically assume this is demonic (or psychosomatic) since it is not accompanied by repentance, faith, or the fear of God. They are not the same.

@jimcosman2 Things like this did happen during the Great Awakening. People did at time react to the power of God in this way. Regardless of whether she is legit or not. Shaking and trembling should not be automatically dismissed as demonic.

@MichelleDLesley A Christian only ever needs Biblical Counseling. “Christian Counseling” mixes the secular with counsel from God’s word and often the secular is what prevails. Biblical Counseling is just more intensive discipleship. The heart of the problem is a problem of the heart.

Definitely premarital pastoral counseling. After that, pastoral counseling, discipleship by an older Titus 2 couple, or biblical counseling (not "Christian counseling") as needed. If you're both walking with Christ faithfully, that shouldn't be more than a "once in a blue moon" kind of thing. A while back, I heard a women's teacher (who I definitely recommend against for this reason and others) say that she's in therapy (I'm assuming with a secular therapist) on a regular, ongoing basis, and she feels that therapy is so important that she will pay for it for anyone who works for her ministry. A healthy Christian doesn't need to see a "therapist" once a week on an ongoing basis any more than a healthy body needs to go to the doctor every week on an ongoing basis. That's what church is for.

Rethink your signage and your policy because carpets can be cleaned, but people might never come back was my takeaway, especially from Rainer. I really don’t think there are many churches that are being objectively ugly to people about coffee in the sanctuary. The opening example he gave was of a greeter politely -not offensively- telling an attendee that coffee wasn’t allowed in the sanctuary.

@MichelleDLesley That's not at all what he said in that article. His entire point was to care about people over the building. He doesn't even say not to have that policy. He just said to be hospitable with any policy you have. That's not fragile. That's common sense.
