@adam3us @itme_brain @ocean_mining Noobs could fall for it. Your voice still has power. Why not activate BIP110 temporarily on Core? In one year, maybe you can do a victory dance.

Today we are announcing that OCEAN’s backend will be upgraded to follow multiple chains independently in the event of a BIP 110 chain split. If a split occurs, DATUM miners automatically continue on whichever chain their own node enforces, and OCEAN will credit rewards to a split share log for that chain, subject to the chain’s continued operation and to our Terms of Service. OCEAN will effectively operate as two pools from the split point. Updated Terms of Service addressing split handling will be published before block 961632. We are building all this so our miners can receive rewards based on their own actions without adversely affecting other OCEAN miners.

21 Million BTC is a rule! So is OP_RETURN 80 bytes. BIP110 enforces those rules!

@BarlowKurt1 Go to your Start9 dashboard → Bitcoin Knots service->Properties Scroll down to Connections. If you see connections out higher than 0 your node is listening. On Start9 this is the default setting.

@MichiFreebird half a percent are listening? its not that hard. Listening nodes are needed.

We have reached 15% BIP110 penetration. The first 15% are always the hardest. So proud of all the pleps out there spinning up their nodes.

@stephanlivera BIP110 makes it more expensive to write bigger files. There we go with the fee market. We also will lower the blocksize in the future to make fees even higher. BIP110 is only the first step to make Bitcoin money again.

The Luke Dashjr/Knots/BIP110 narrative is that Bitcoin Core should have implemented much stricter relay filters (including on the inscription envelope) in early 2023 and this would have stopped the ordinals, inscriptions, and BRC-20 driven UTXO bloat. Reality is more nuanced. Even if Core had shipped a new default filter against inscriptions, it wouldn’t have stopped them. Older nodes would still relay the transactions and miners could accept them via direct submission. Once real economic incentives appeared, mere relay policy changes in Core weren’t enough. By mid 2024, Libre Relay (and similar permissive approaches) made the point academic anyway. It is more permissive and ensures propagation to willing miners. Relay filters don't override strong market demand in a permissionless system. Since then, the hype peaked, fees rationed space at times, and the UTXO set has since stabilized somewhat as the mania faded. Bottom line: It’s not correct to blame Core devs for what happened with ordinals. They didn’t have the power to stop it on a decentralized network.

BIP-110 isn't about stopping spam. It's the network's immune response. Nodes saying no to non-monetary use of Bitcoin. And reminding everyone who actually decides what Bitcoin is.
