@Miki__Yoshi @omnicronos @aengusmcmillin @juliepagano @rakyll In the case of Gergely's example, the few "token" individuals ended up hiring for other teams as well as their own. At some point soon even the effort to be nice to yet another intervewee becomes an effort that's harder and harder to make and thus, a "shitty task".

@Miki__Yoshi @omnicronos @aengusmcmillin @juliepagano @rakyll Have you experienced how much interviewing goes on in hyper-growth company situations, especially when trying to hire for hard-to-find skillsets? I do and 1st few loops, it's "experience building" but soon it's just a burden that prevents you from doing well on your actual job.

A personal anecdote... This type of policy impacted the lives of people who (a) overwhelmingly have been chosen to interview because there were few of them, (b) lowered their happiness because they got exposed to bad behavior all the time. twitter.com/GergelyOrosz/s…

@AhmetCoskunNL Not much. Many are waiting on one another for parts and none are willing to ramp up too much in response to a peak in demand that may only be transient.

To which extend could this delay be minimized with a higher level of digitization within the value & supply chain? lnkd.in/eMsSnmdB

@clairernovotny Unless a program on your phone that you can't see is accessing those URLs "for you" ?

This is not ok. A program that’s screening URLs, on the extremely off chance I click on a phishing link, should not be taking up that much battery.

@editingemily If Zelensky wanted to bait them by asking them not to post it (e.g. to go viral) then these two went along and are idiots. If they couldn't stop themselves from not doing as the man asked: idiots If they deliberately did it: collusion with the raving lunatic in Kremlin, idiots.

@jstn Not every country had the same policy and it didn’t happen anywhere else. I doubt that’s the reason. I ran one years ago and I wouldn’t go back to that when a VPS costs $5/month. Maintenance and keeping it secure takes some effort, centralized options sound appealing.

you know why people don't run their own servers? because a couple decades ago american ISPs said "no" to having a web server in your home, and it's been the same ever since. synology could've been the macintosh of the home server, instead we all use dropbox and web 2.0

@wgentine That journey shouldn't even be in a work-related expression. For over 90% of us, what we do at work or where, will not define or differentiate our lives the way we do for our kids, friends, family. If you see that from an employer, it's likely a filter looking for workaholics.

I often hear the term: “journey to become a best version of yourself”. Nice! But that doesn’t mean becoming an extremely successful but workaholic person that doesn’t care about family or a have a private life. Some companies think that’s what it takes.

@QuinnyPig Having previous (and current) co-workers pay to get you into another job? Sounds like a fast track to get the worst and least liked people from other organisations too, having people pay to get rid of a colleague.

The last three phases of my development career, the background noise has sounded roughly like this 1. cloud cloud cloud cloud 2. docker docker docker docker 3. kubernetes kubernetes kubernetes kubernetes What's next?

@QuinnyPig Because us-west-2 is in a location with lower power/cooling/humidity control cost, lower real-estate or bandwidth cost, but us-west-1 was there first and swapping their names is a low to medium risk operation with zero reward? But I'm speculating.

Lazy web question, given that search engines only give serve ads on this topic: I need suggestions for the best BMW motorcycle maintenance shop around Amsterdam. Advice is much appreciated.
