a lot of people saying "he'll grow out of it" is saddening... this isnt just hurting HIM... he's saying this shit to the students at his school too!!! and he's saying this to others online i'm sure! and he's hurting Me! this is an active issue :,(

The response "he'll grow out of it" is so depressing, actually. Never realised how accustomed we are to boys hating women as a part of their growing process.

@rach262003 Does he have a good friend/social group? I think a lot of people fall into these traps if they don't have community around them. Not an excuse by any means, but I think the best way to avoid falling in with the wrong crowd is to already be part of the right crowd.

It’s the era I think. I noticed a sharp drop in men cold approaching me around 2016- I thought it was just bc I was getting older and was married, but I’ve met cute girls in their 20s who say men only approach them on the apps

@SteveKamb honestly yeah, started having dinner around 6, with a ~9:30-5:30 sleep schedule, it's pretty sweet! Only downside is the days when I'm out late hanging out with friends, still end up waking by ~6 and hurting the rest of the day

@InezFeltscher Yeah, I think it's a risk of being perceived as a threat, as well as being perceived as objectifying. Younger generations are more aware of many women's struggles in those areas, and have internalized more of a concern about accidentally being "part of the problem"

We olds are missing something on this: as approaching in person became rarer (dominance of apps) it also became more awkward-coded & a higher level of social skill is required to pull it off. A guy approaching in 2023 is working against a stronger 1st impression that he’s an aggressive weirdo than in 2013.

@innerpathing Yeah, as a guy who tries to be aware of feminist concerns, so many stories online of shitty stuff that men do and how horrible it makes these women feel, it's very easy to get in the mindset of not wanting to contribute even in the slightest to women feeling objectified or unsafe

@lilbabygandhi I kinda think it's because there is a discrepancy (although can be connected) between cute and hot, and the ranking tends to be more about hot, whereas interest skews more towards cute, or combo of cute + hot?

I grew up in New Jersey. We say “you guys” it has always been “you guys” and always will. I personally don’t like “y’all” as it seems lazy as it’s just short form for “you all”. Are those 2 extra letters really that much more to say?
I still use “master” for git and databases also. I have never used “salve” for databases, it’s always been “fallback” or “backup”
It’s just ridiculous to me that people get offended by words that have no impact on their lives, forcing an entire industry to change what it’s been doing for decades.

my first software job i wasn't allowed to say "you guys" because it offended people with they/them pronouns. i got in trouble for using master as a branch name. i once was lectured by a senior engineer because i made a diff where i used the constants WHITE_LIST and BLACK_LIST

@BeaLawson27 @alyssa_hakanson @goldnecklace2 Later I will try and either find pics or do a cleanup so I can take pics. But it's almost all ikea, so wasn't crazy expensive. I use 3 of the Alex drawers plus a 98" karlby for my crafting table on one wall of the room, plus a couple of kallax cube shelf units on the other.

I have redone the crafts room (a tiny bedroom without a single whole wall) 3 times and I am still not happy… the big name crafters who do tours online have rooms that are 8 x the size of mine and can afford custom built-in cabinets, which are not an option:-)
