As crews continue restoration work across the state, we're keeping safety top of mind. We greatly appreciate your patience as our teams continue to work through restoration. As that work continues, we want to share the following important safety reminders: 🧊 Melting ice can cause tree branches to snap suddenly 📏 If you see downed wires, keep your distance. Stay at least 25 feet away, call 9-1-1, then call us at 800-477-5050 🔌Practice generator safety. Keep generators away from enclosed areas, and never use a generator in an attached garage, basement, enclosed patio or near any air intakes 🚚 Give our crews safe space to work. Drivers should slow down or stop and wait for oncoming traffic to clear so they can go safely past.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared March 15 – March 21 as #SevereWeatherAwarenessWeek in Michigan. With winter weather currently impacting Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, it's a good reminder that severe weather in Michigan can include a range of conditions from severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to extreme snow and ice… sometimes, even on the same day! ⛈️🌪️❄️🥶 Review your emergency plan (for any season), refresh your kit, and stay informed. Look for more tips in the comment section! @MichStatePolice | #winterweather | #beprepared | #mitornadodrill | #MIREADY

After Sunday's brutal winter storm, our crews have worked around the clock, restoring service to more than 100,000 Michiganders like you. With over 700 crews working 16-hour shifts, we're committed to safely getting everyone back up and running as efficiently as possible. In hard-hit areas up north, we're positioning mobile command centers and an emergency response unit, bringing aid where it's needed the most. As we continue restoration efforts, please keep the following safety tips in mind: ⚠️ Stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines, and report unguarded downed lines by calling 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050. Consumers Energy reminds people that falsely calling in downed lines actually slows down the restoration process for everyone.  🪫 Never use a generator in an attached garage, basement, enclosed patio or near any air intakes. Doing so could cause a generator to produce hazardous levels of carbon monoxide. 🌳 Consumers Energy will trim or remove trees interfering with electric restoration activities. Once safe to do so, cleanup of debris from tree trimming or removal during a storm emergency is the responsibility of individual property owners.

A second round of winter weather hit Michigan overnight, affecting our friends and neighbors hardest in northern Michigan. Right now our co-workers – from our lineworkers to our wire guards and mobile command units - are assessing the damage and prepared to secure the grid. Here's what you need to know: 1️⃣ Help is on the way. Over 480 crews are working across the state to restore power safely to the communities we serve. 2️⃣ We're continuing to monitor and respond to high winds that are in the forecast across Michigan today. You can count on us to work around the clock until every neighbor is back up and running. 3️⃣ With restoration top of mind, please remember these important safety tips: Stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines, and to report unguarded downed lines by calling 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.  If you need to travel, be alert to crews working along roadsides. If you see crews along the road, please allow ample space to work.
