Mid Beds Labour

For decades, dependence on fossil fuels meant dependence on volatility. In past oil shocks, countries had little choice but to absorb the pain.  Now they have an exit ramp: Homegrown renewable energy has never been cheaper, more accessible, or more scalable. The resources of the clean energy era cannot be blockaded or weaponized. There are no price spikes for sunlight & no embargoes on the wind.   The fastest path to energy security, economic & national security is clear: Speed up a just transition away from fossil fuels & toward renewable energy.

Yesterday was International Women’s Day. This morning, I reflect on Sylvia Pankhurst’s contribution to promoting women’s political, economic and social rights. Her photograph, which hangs above my office desk, inspires me to continue to campaign on these issues everyday.

5️⃣0️⃣ years ago today Barbara Castle's Equal Pay Act becomes law. After decades of campaigning, it enabled women to make a claim for equal pay if they did the same job as a man. Castle hoped it would “raise expectations” for women in society and the workplace.

Having long campaigned to improve provision for young people with additional needs, I’m delighted we’ve secured funding for 130 additional SEND places across Central Beds 📈 I’ll be pushing CBC to ensure they use this funding to deliver the right provision for our community ✅

The Tories say that all parties want to tackle child poverty. Sadly, it's not true. Only Labour have taken action. We'll drive the largest reduction of child poverty within a single Parliament. Deeds, not words.

Labour has launched free breakfast clubs, increased the minimum wage for millions of workers and increased government funded childcare to help with the cost of living, and we won’t stop there.
