Shubman Gill falls short of the most runs in a series for India, finishing with 754 to Sunil Gavaskar's 774. He edges out Graham Gooch's 752 for the most in an India vs England series - although Gooch's was made in only 3 matches, still the record for a series of that length.

Gavaskar went on to make 236* in that innings - his highest Test score, and the highest for India until VVS Laxman broke it at Kolkata 2001. They'll be hoping for something similar from Gill here...

This is the first time India have been reduced to 0/2 in a Test since Malcolm Marshall removed Aunshuman Gaekwad and Dilip Vengsarkar for ducks at Chennai in 1983 - allegedly leading Viv Richards to crack to Sunil Gavaskar at number 4 "Doesn't matter what number you come in, the score is still 0."

Gill has 619 runs in the series so far. He's broken the record for India in England - previously Rahul Dravid's 602 in 2002 - but after the high of 585 in the first two Tests, three low scores have dented his chances of the overall Indian record - Gavaskar's 774 in WI in 1971.

That's actually the longest England have batted in an innings in the Bazball era - 7.1 overs more than they took to score 823 and 56.1 overs longer than the 657 at Rawalpindi in 2022 - and yet it's still the third highest run rate among their ten 650+ totals: even restrained Bazball is still faster than what went before.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, Ben Stokes is only the third player with 7000+ runs and 200+ wickets in Tests (in fact he was already only the third with 6000+ and 200+). He has the best bowling average of the three, but Sobers and Kallis have batting averages 20 runs higher.
