On This Day in 1897 @DerbyshireCCC wicket-keeper, Bill Storer removed his pads and took five for 40 against Surrey at The Oval. Storer scored 12 of the 39 hundreds made by Derbyshire 'keepers, and when making ten of his 12 hundreds, he also bowled in the same match @ACScricket

Irthlingborough’s finest, Jim Griffiths, praises @sando567 who recently exceeded Griff’s tally of 627 all-format wickets for @NorthantsCCC. “He’s an exceptional bowler, I’m glad he’s up there and I hope he goes further.” Much more in Monday’s Cricket Show on @BBCNorthampton 6pm.

5th scorecard of the season this time from Arundel where England Lions took on South Africa A. Bit of lateral movement meant that 17 wkts fell on Day 1. Only Marques Ackerman scored more than 29 (he was 56*). Alfie Ogbourne, Eddie Jack & Mitchell Stanley impressed. @AnnieChave

The IPL reaches its end who are the most valuable players: is it Sunil Naraine with the best economy rate of 6.40 runs per over or Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with the best strike rate of 236.32. Or Sai Sudharsan with 638 runs or Bhuv Kumar with 24 wickets. surely it depends who wins?

Some photos of the cricketer Mike Smith who has sadly died recently aged 92. My snap of MJK in Barbados as England manager on the West Indies tour in 1994. Other peoples snaps show him working on the Leamington CC ground a couple of years ago. Also meeting the Queen at Lords.

It's Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's birth anniversary. The creator of Sherlock Holmes was a keen cricketer whose only first class wicket was the great W G Grace and even wrote a story about a mystery bowler decades before Mendis and Narain. Doyle's tale, "The Story of Spedegue's Dropper" first appeared in the Strand Magazine in 1928, and told of a mystery bowler who became the hero of an Ashes test match. The story is still a great read!

On 22nd May 1945, 1st class cricket resumed at Lords with the start of a 5 match series between Australian Services & England. Keith Miller inevitably scored a century & future umpire Cec Pepper took 4-80 with his leg spinners as Australian Services won by 6 wkts. #cricketcounts

The ACS is very sad to learn of the death of our former President, MJK Smith of Warwickshire. In addition to playing 50 Tests for England, 25 as captain, he was a very popular president of our Association from 2007 to 2017. We published Douglas Miller's biography of MJK, "No Ordinary Man", in 2013. archive.acscricket.com/online_library… MJK scored 39,832 first-class runs at 41.84 (2,278 of them for England) over a career that ran from 1951 to 1975. He also played one Rugby Union international against Wales in 1956. He served as Warwickshire’s chairman from 1991 to 2003, managed several England tours, and made history as the ICC’s first referee in the Australia-India series of 1991-92.
