The simple physics of this situation is that a warmer sea surface results in more evaporation, and the warmer air above it can carry more water vapour. Eventually though, what goes up must come down, and a lot of it is coming down in extreme rainfall events. 3/3

No individual extreme event can be attributed to climate change with absolute certainty, but when you look at the number of extreme rainfall events happening around the world, it's clear something is up. 1/2

Today it is the UK's turn to experience serious flooding due to intense rainfall. A reminder that UK rainfall intensity has increased markedly over the past 60+ years. All consistent with the physics of a warming atmosphere which is now more humid.
