I had great interactions with both men...I tried to teach Bill how to say Poughkeepsie...but he still said Poughkeepskie....and I talked Phil into recording a message to my softball team...even threw in a Holy Cow!

Rizzuto: 'How do you know her name is Melody?' Then there was the night in Seattle, the Yankees' first trip there to play the Pilots, and Phil decided to tell the audience about this new American League city. Not much of an audience, he decided, because it was near the end of a long game and that made it almost 4 a.m. back in New York. "We're staying at a nice hotel," he said. And all the rooms are round. My wife Cora, isn't with me on this trip, but if she was, there'd be no cornering Cora tonight." Bill White visited Phil Rizzuto in his rehabilitation facility, when Rizzuto couldn`t speak. "Instead, Phil held up his hand and I took it in mine. For next 45 minutes, we sat there, holding hands. Two old men, old baseball players, holding hands in a sunbeam. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but I’m pretty sure Phil would have wanted me to laugh." Bill White. "How would you like to work eighteen years with a guy who still doesn't know you're first name?" White.

My favorite thing in the @YogiBerraMuseum is this incredible, one-of-one charcoal drawing of Grampa Yogi done by the great LeRoy Neiman in the stands at Ft. Lauderdale Stadium at #Yankees spring training in 1964. And it almost ended up in the trash.

Very happy to see how much better John Mara, who is going through cancer treatments, looked. Hopefully this means he's winning his battle and is on the road to recovery. Cancer treatments aren't easy to go through.

The flag that Rick Monday rescued 50 years ago today is headed to Cooperstown!
OTD in 1976, Monday, a Cubs outfielder and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, grabbed an American flag from two protesters who had run onto the field at Dodger Stadium and attempted to burn it.
Monday, the longtime Dodgers broadcaster who played 19 years in the Major Leagues, was a two-time All-Star and a World Series champion, has often been asked about the moment.
“If that’s all you’re ever remembered for, that’s not a bad thing at all,” Monday told MLB Network in 2016.
Monday still owns the flag and it will be on loan to the Baseball Hall of Fame this summer as part of America’s 250th birthday celebration. In addition, Monday will be honored on July 25 during induction weekend.
