The vast majority of Republicans stuck together to do something Democrats are refusing to do: Fully fund the Border Patrol and ICE for three and a half years through the Trump presidency. As Senate Budget Committee Chairman, I am very proud of my colleagues. Adopting the budget resolution will allow the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees to write a reconciliation bill that spends $70 billion so we can continue to enforce immigration laws and have the most secure border in modern history. Democrats’ refusal to fund ICE and Border Patrol at a time of growing threats to our nation is one of the most irresponsible decisions I’ve witnessed since I’ve been in the Senate. The bottom line is that Republicans in Congress are going to work with President Trump to get the job done by June 1.

Our public lands are a source of pride and economic vitality for the Gem State. This Earth Day, we celebrate the unique landscapes that define our western way of life. Public lands should remain public. To ensure these lands are managed effectively, we must empower state and local officials to participate meaningfully in the decision-making process. Collaborative, consensus-building approaches, like the Owyhee Initiative, create outcomes better for both the environment and our natural resource-based economies. I am proud to support policies that protect the multiple-use mandate. This ensures our federal lands remain open for recreation, timber production, energy development and more. By restoring common sense to federal land management, we protect public access and ensure resilient economies for our rural counties for years to come.

Senate Democrats walked away from a bipartisan bill to fund DHS. They demanded “reforms” that would end immigration enforcement altogether. Now, we’re going to fund ICE and CBP for years to come and Senator Schumer gets nothing from his DHS shutdown.

Senate Democrats are expected to disagree with Republicans. But cheering for our enemy, especially for a regime that has killed so many American citizens, is beyond the pale. Democrats in Congress ought to condemn this disgusting remark.

From a 4-H market lamb project to leading a statewide organization, Liz Wilder’s love for agriculture has come full circle. Today, she raises registered Suffolks and club lambs and serves as Executive Director of the Idaho Wool Growers Association, in addition to running a direct-to-consumer lamb business with her husband in Caldwell, Idaho.
