Does buying land make sense ? 1 acre example $10,000 an acre and pay cash Takes 30 yrs for the land to generate enough $$$ to pay for itself Or invest that 10,000 in the stock market for 30 yrs and that 10,000 is now $100,000 And in 30 yrs that one acre is now worth $20,000 an acre ??? Now let’s do it when you put $5343 down payment borrow $4657 so you have $300 an acre payments to bank for 30 yrs Pay $4343 in interest For a total of $14,343 invested into that 1 acre Value of land in 30 yrs $20,000 per acre ?? Now invest that down payment of $5343 for 30 yrs You will have $53,764

@CBKimbrell I raise these birds. Coscto sells over 100 million of them a year. You maybe don’t serve rotisserie chicken on holidays. But no better value in protein the rest of the days out of the year!

My wife just bought chicken for $1.25/lb. I told her it’s a good thing that chicken isn’t any good or we’d be out of the beef business. Maybe someone should point out to Trump that we don’t need to lower cattle prices because folks can always eat chicken if they’re desperate.

@FarmrHuntr Fall early seeding regardless if drill, broadcast etc. always seems disappointing. I get it done before the snow flies and it all looks about the same come spring. In SWIA here.

@MikeFamilyFarm Looks great Mike. Thanks for sharing. How many bushels does your rig hold? Are you a fan of early rye seeding or get to it whenever ?

How much seed to soil contact do you need in 200-250 bpa residue? We shall find out with disturbance limited to 2 rolling baskets.

@FarmrHuntr @UnverferthMfg 48 bu. Technically. Inhafe had some issues with the frame on the unverferth harrow though so I don’t fill it that full on our rough farms (most of them).

@MaxROIFarmer Steering radius. I don’t want to have to have an acre headland to turn around in. Bigger cab with electric shifting tranny like 8400 JD of similar era.

If you were going to tear down and rebuild a boxcar magnum today what things would you try and add/improve to make it better than factory?

@CBKimbrell @JerodMcDaniel People can have issues with the hog and poultry contract growers all they want. I do as well. I also know of almost none that regret going down that path. Contract feeding chickens has been the best investment my farm has made.

Due to a post by @JerodMcDaniel I had grok compare cattle prices to the S&P. Cattle prices are still low comparatively speaking so that got me wondering why hogs and chickens haven’t even kept up with beef. My conclusion is they’re primarily raised by indentured servants and the overlords are oppressive. This isn’t meant to be a dig on the pig and poultry industries, it’s just the way I see it has gone. Had a Canadian hog farmer on here this week bragging about how he could work for pennies and undercut the American hog market. How did we get to the point that “being efficient” ie risking everything and working for nothing is something to be celebrated? I pray we never let this go further than it already has in the cow-calf industry.

@embdenhaymaker Good attitude. The biggest thing statistically is to not be alone and don’t enter a bin you can’t touch the floor on. I don’t consider the sweep a danger. As more large bins show up on farms the more deaths there will be. Happening way too often. Need that attitude of safety. IMO

This may be controversial. We don’t enter bins unless 2 people are present. Ran the sweep around the bottom 3 times. Maybe 30 bushels left on this floor. $125 worth of grain or all your limbs and or life. Safety is a priority not a choice. Thanks for listening.

@josh_knauss @Qconnealy19 If it was going to corn, I’d kill it pretty quick. Full rate of gly. Ideally warm day before, of, and day after app. Plant when its brown. Probably 2 weeks after termination.

So I’m going to be honest as a first time cover cropper. What’s my next step here coming into #plant25 ? When do I terminate this green stuff or is it easier to use a little steel therapy to prep before planting? It’ll be going to irrigated corn 🌽 #pleaseHelp #agX

Does the rain in eastern iowa look dirty to anyone else? Is it possible the dust and dirt from Oklahoma and Kansas was in the atmosphere and is now being deposited here?

@CBKimbrell @KaceyAukema @Benefitsguynick You can’t do that. Its being handled appropriately. The manner in which commercial poultry is raised you are nearly guaranteed to spread the disease. You will be disposing of birds with active infections. There will have to be feed trucks, live haul trucks, service techs.

Serious question: Why kill the chickens? If the flock has the flu, why not wait to see which ones survive and then you have breeding stock that’s tough enough to survive it.
Susan Stroud@SusanNOBULL

Through the end of last week more than 32 million birds have been depopulated so far in 2025 -the majority of which are egg layers The United States' pricey egg situation is far from over, especially as we continue to see high frequencies of outbreaks at complexes with 1M+ hens

They claim that the strain they are detecting has a 100% mortality rate.... I call BS... Nobody with their own bird flocks on their farms/acreages have seen any abnormal deaths. We certainly haven't. We have free range turkeys and chickens and haven't seen anything abnormal for many years. Our hens are confined all winter in a small barn area, its far too cold to let them out, so they live in worse conditions than a heated barn that the large operations have in winter. I'm not believing in any of this. When what you observe doesn't match the media/govt narrative you have to be skeptical that any of it is real.

@jessicawilcoxOK I think the issue is that fentanyl is used to “spike” other drugs to increase cheaper manufactured drugs potency. Not necessarily used as a primary drug.Dosing of fentanyl is such that “Spiking” another drug with a minimal amount causes death. One dose gives a high, next death.

Random thought today: IF they get the flow of fentanyl to substantially decrease, what will all the users turn to? What is the substitute? Will the users be able to clean up? Literally way out of my wheelhouse, just wondering about all the users/homeless.

@ksufearless Just bought a cascadia with isx and eaton auto. We wanted an auto for same reason as you. They are not trouble free but had to go with eaton because it is PTO compatible. Not all auto’s can easily add PTO’s to if that ever an issues.
