Excl w/ @breeallegretti: Left-wing MPs are considering standing a candidate against Andy Burnham in a future Labour leadership contest because of concerns the Greater Manchester mayor could abandon progressive positions to broaden his appeal. The Times has been told they do not want Burnham to be treated as the automatic standard-bearer for the left of the party. Some MPs on the hard left have complained that Burnham has fallen in behind immigration reforms proposed by Shabana Mahmood, the home secretary, and backed government guidance on single-sex spaces. One MP on the left of the party told The Times: “A lot of us are increasingly frustrated that he’s being portrayed as the saviour of the left when he’s nothing of the sort. There have been discussions about whether we put up a candidate to try to force him into more progressive positions.” Another MP added: “It will be difficult for the supposed supporters of Andy to back him for leader if he keeps offering something on a Monday then changing his mind on Tuesday. His immigration stance and the possible inclusion of Wes [Streeting] as his chancellor will be a problem.” But the move from the Labour left would likely hasten calls for Burnham to be given a “coronation” if he wins the Makerfield by-election next month and returns to Westminster to challenge Sir Keir Starmer. @Beverle22804497 Three of us went in quietly for a cuppa and a toastie & nobody knew I was a politician, NOBODY. There’s a big difference between supporting a community café and using one staffed by vulnerable young people as a backdrop for political content without permission or consideration.

@MikeKaneMP It’s a bloody cafe. That’s the whole point - people go in and use it. Why was it ok when you turn up unannounced or indeed the BBCOne show. It was fine then. Pathetic Labour snake pit propaganda . An independent journalist confirmed they had no idea Burnham there

Yesterday whilst campaigning in Makerfield, my small team & I visited this wonderful cafe. The staff were welcoming, attentive & incredibly friendly. The lack of respect shown to the vulnerable adults who work there says so much about Reform and who they are.

Like I said. Reform are still complete amateurs. They messed up initially. But even then they could just have apologised and moved on. But no. They had to run the usual playbook of getting in people’s faces. Nuts.

During #SmallBusinessSaturday yesterday @LizALPatel & I joined the fab @AltrinchamBID, @TraffordCouncil colleagues & others for the Purple Flag assessment of Altrincham Town Centre. Started at 5pm, ended around 1.40am. Great to visit so many businesses.

Today, we remember all those who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice, courage and commitment to peace will never be forgotten. We will remember them.
