If you make homemade butter, you get homemade buttermilk. If you have homemade buttermilk you're going to make biscuits. And if you make biscuits you need to make biscuits and gravy.

With conservatives in Calif, Swalwell developed a reputation of being an idiot who didn't realize there were things around corners you might not see coming. We were right from the start -- just like with Harris and Newsom. All three are mid-wits who only succeed with the lack of scrutiny in a one-party state. Only left-wing media thought he was something special.
Peter Baker@peterbakernyt

Swalwell developed a reputation as a digital native, a person who seemed to have a deep understanding of how to harness the power of social media. In the end, social media would also play a critical role in his undoing.@4evrmalone nytimes.com/2026/05/01/us/…

After years and years of asking youse guys to share your family photographic treasures with Dave's Car ID Service, it occurred to me I've never really reciprocated by sharing my own. Honestly, I have a bit of a guilt complex over this, and so in lieu of my normal car history blather today I will dig into my own family archives for a few IDs. Starting with a caricature of Yours Truly, age 11, driving a Disneyland Autopia car. It was the big family California vacation of my youth, the one that my siblings and I still talk about. In fact I was vacationing with my brother in Italy recently, hobnobbing at fancy restaurants and wineries and museums and such, and that trip came up. And we both still agreed it was the greatest vacation ever. Anyhoo over the 3 days we spent at Disneyland I lost count of how many times I took a spin at Autopia, along with the mini Model T track. Mom & Dad commissioned one of the park caricaturists to draw cartoons of all of us (I think it was like $5 per), and described our various personalities. For me? "All wants to do is drive those cars." So I guess this is probably the closest you'll get to an origin story from me. Maybe some day I'll ask AI to turn this image into a 1970s Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

Correct. As I have proposed for over two decades "…withdraw all maneuver forces from Asia and Europe except for what is needed at Combined Training and Logistics Bases with our most important allies." Such a posture does not abandon NATO, it would make it stronger. The U.S. simply adjusts to modern reality...and more importantly...enables the US to shape its force structure around its comparative advantage as a maritime & aerospace power with its land component scalable, expeditionary, and supported with robust air and sea strategic lift to be able to respond to where the future calls its need to support its interests and allies in Europe, Asia, or elsewhere. We are a republic with friends and interests, not an empire that garrisons foreign nations. We need to be structured as such.
Richard Grenell@RichardGrenell

I see a lot of people saying there are 35,000 to 36,000 US troops in Germany. But that is active duty troops only. If you count rotational troops and US civilian contractors, it is well over 55,000 Americans...too many for today’s threats and today’s tactics to combat these threats. We must modernize.

Re Voter ID. Youth soccer players have to produce a birth certificate and have a picture taken - the info goes on a player card that the coach must show the referee before the start of a match or the kid - even 8 years old - doesn’t get to play. If your child wants to play neighborhood Little League with geographic boundaries, you need proof of your address to be eligible. Both sets of requirements are to prevent cheating by adults. But it seems Dems have no concerns about cheating in elections. Those are usually the cheaters.

That would make it a perfect opportunity for Roberts to step away. This has been a central feature of his time on the Court, and he was able to "preserve" certain features of civil rights legislation while steering the excesses back after having gone into the ditch.

The Hill is out with my column on how the Court's decision in Callais on racial gerrymandering is the capstone of years of opinions by the Roberts Court aimed at maintaining a colorblind constitution...thehill.com/opinion/judici…

When you point out to a socialist that raising the minimum wage means losing jobs, their response is that the entire business must burn if it can’t pay that wage. They don’t care about jobs or wages at all - only that their theories are imposed on reality.
