@AR58440224 Hi Danburi. Just need to remove the Austin reference there, as he wasn't tendered as a restricted free agent and has since signed with the Dolphins.

@MikeReiss @MikeReiss I assume we will keep 5 CBs on the initial 53--possibly 6. 5 CB if we keep 4 safeties, 6 CBs if we only keep 3 safeties. Gonzo, Davis and Jones are clearly locks. I would imagine the other 2 slots will come from: ['26 Draft Pick]+either Austin/Dial/Woods/Minor/Vildor.

Follow-up: LB Jack Gibbens' deal in Arizona has a base value of $7.5 million, with total guarantees of $4.5 million, and cap charges of $3.725 million in 2026 and $4.025 million in 2027. Patriots didn't tender Gibbens as restricted free agent (right of first refusal $3.5m). This is somewhat similar to Patriots' deal with TE Julian Hill, who wasn't tendered as a restricted free agent by Miami and landed 3-year, $15 million base value contract in NE.

“Dr. Gibby” relocates his practice to Arizona. The Cardinals announce the signing of LB Jack Gibbens to a 2-year deal after the Patriots didn’t tender Gibbens as a restricted free agent. Former Dolphins LB K.J. Britt a top option to fill Gibbens’ void on defense/special teams.

For those updating Patriots rosters at home, please note the following changes: 🏈 TE C.J. Dippre is now No. 81, taking Austin Hooper's old number. Dippre, who had donned 81 at Alabama, was No. 82 in his rookie season in New England. 🏈 LS Niko Lalos (1-year deal) is No. 62.

Hi Matthew. Would flip this one around a bit. If we look at Austin Hooper's career, 2 of his 3 low-production seasons (receptions) came in the Josh McDaniels offense. So I'll volley a question back to you: Other than maybe Drake Maye's presence, what makes you think Hooper would have wanted to come back?

@MikeReiss Terrible move letting Hooper walk. He had better hands than Henry and was more dependable with far fewer opportunities.

Hi UncleMark. He might not make the team. No guarantees there. I like to relay the Malcolm Butler story in these types of conversations. When the Patriots initially signed Butler to the 90-man roster after a tryout in 2014, many could have asked, "What's the point?" Long answer short: Never know how these things will unfold. So might as well be relentless in trying everything possible to build the best team possible.

@MikeReiss What is the point? He won’t even make the team after they draft a TE and pick up a vet cheap like a Jonnu Smith?

@bjwitherell Hi Brian. Hope you are great. In the offseason, they can have up to 90 players on the roster. So a good chance to build some depth, take a look at different guys, and keep everyone sharp.

Hi combustman. I'd put him on as TE3 right now, but if they draft someone (likely), that would put him on the outside looking in if everyone if healthy. 20 offensive snaps/26 special teams snaps of game film to analyze from 2025. Hard to draw definitive conclusions from that, but would say it didn't look too big for him. At the same time, I think it's fair to say that if they knew for sure on Dippre, they don't sign Julian Hill to the 3-year, $15m base value deal that could be worth up to $18m. So have to see what the development looks like this offseason/training camp ... as well as the injury situation. A true TBD situation.

@MikeReiss Mike what do you think the chances Dippre actually makes the 53 this year? Feels like we heard/saw basically nothing about him last year except when he was signed to the 53 late in the year.

@MikeReiss Pats & Diggs need to re-up. He played really well; was coming off major injury and had 85 catches AND appeared to be a leader of the team. Mike, to me it's a no-brainer. Just get it done Elliot.
