I have many patients and friends who own companies and tell me that there is a critical shortage of trained construction workers right now, and it is only going to get worse. Part of the solution is passing AB 241. Allowing a one-to-two training ratio would enable local employers to train more apprentices, reduce workforce shortages, and create more opportunities for individuals seeking to enter the well-paying construction trades. That means more opportunities for young people to enter the trades without taking on massive student debt as well as more support for local businesses trying to grow.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I had a great time at Congressman Scott Fitzgerald’s annual St. Patrick’s Day gathering last week. It was wonderful connecting with so many people from across our community. I’m grateful that Congressman Fitzgerald took a moment to introduce me and give me the opportunity to speak about why I’m running for the Wisconsin State Senate and the work we can do to bring strong leadership back to Madison. Thank you to everyone who came out! I’m excited about the momentum we’re building!

You got to get up early if you want to talk to the women and men who are literally building Wisconsin. I had the privilege of sitting down with plumbers and apprentices at Milestone Plumbing in Wauwatosa at 6am on a Friday. Was great to learn more about construction apprenticeship and working in the skilled trades.

As we come to the end of International Women’s Day, I want to thank all of the incredible women I had the privilege of highlighting today. From family members, to teachers, to business owners, to community leaders, each of these women has had a meaningful impact on my life and on the lives of so many others around them. They represent the very best of our communities — strength, compassion, resilience, leadership, and a deep commitment to serving others. Every one of them has helped shape who I am today, and I am incredibly grateful for the role they have played in my life. International Women’s Day is a reminder that strong communities are built by strong people who care about others and work to make life better for the next generation. To all of the women who lead in their families, businesses, classrooms, and communities — thank you. Your impact reaches further than you may ever know.

Meet Barb. She and I have been friends for a long time. She started as my patient and over the many sessions of getting to know each other, it was obvious we had a special friendship growing to where we will call her Auntie B in our house. She makes me laugh every time I see her and we've had some great times together. Now don't get me wrong, Barb and I have had differences in our political views. She considers herself a Democrat and obviously that could be a barrier to many friendships as we are seeing today. What is different about us though, is that we take the time to listen to each other's points of view, understand our reasoning, and come to find an agreement (even if it means agreeing to disagree). When 70% of our population feels politics is too divided, let’s use the friendship Barb and I have as an example and find ways to work together and get things done in Madison!

Caryn has worked in law enforcement at the city of Pewaukee as a police officer and as a Jefferson County deputy. She was injured on duty in 2003 and shortly after that found a passion in helping animals. In 2005 after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf, she felt an overwhelming need to go help. Her and her team rescued 135 animals in less than 36 hours and thus Operation Bring Animals Home Search and Rescue Team was born. Her team helps with major disasters and also locally where she rescues animals on a regular basis to find their forever homes. Caryn is an inspiration for her hard work, determination, and desire to make her community a better place. I'm honored to know Caryn! If I am elected as your next State Senator, I pledge to support law enforcement and those vulnerable with the resources they need!

Tina was my CrossFit coach at Badger CrossFit in Wauwatosa many years back. Not only is she a fantastic coach and promoter of healthy, active lifestyles for many people, today she is the proud owner of Badger CrossFit! I have been witness to her extreme hard work, determination, and dedication to achieving her goals. She and I have similar goals in wanting to teach people healthy habits, lifestyles, and ways to stay active and strong. Tina is also a new mom so she deserves even more credit for owning a business and starting a beautiful family with her husband and my friend, Ross. If I am elected as your next State Senator, I pledge to take on healthcare and become a leader within our state to make it more affordable by working with women like Tina who have spent their career focusing on prevention and healthy lifestyles.

Anita has known me since my early days of opening my healthcare business. Some of you may recognize her for her amazing voice as she has been signing for multiple groups throughout her life around the Milwaukee area! I still don’t believe her when she tells me her age and she can run circles around most people half of her age! She has passed her love, energy, and passion for life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren! She is an inspiration to many and I am very blessed to have her in my life!

Kari and I go way back! We grew up together as small kids, graduated high school together and stayed friends all these years. She is a kind, happy, and positive person who has had her own business as a hair stylist for 16 years now. She works extremely hard and is a supportive mom to her kids and a wonderful wife to her husband (who is also long time friend of mine). I am proud of our long-lasting friendship and continued patronage to her chair. Thanks for always making my hair look good for these social media posts, Kari! If I am elected as your next State Senator, I want to make owning a small business easier for anyone willing to take that step. We need to make Wisconsin small business friendly!

One of the first political speeches I remember seeing was from Rebecca Kleefisch in 2011, shortly after she became Wisconsin’s Lieutenant Governor. At that same time, I had just entered the real world as a new physical therapist during a difficult economic period. Over the next eight years, Rebecca helped lead Wisconsin through a period of economic recovery, job growth, and renewed optimism for our state. What stood out to me most, though, was her resilience, leadership, and willingness to serve even when her opponents were doing everything they could to try to stop her. Over the years she has continued to be an inspiration, and I’m grateful to now call her a friend as I begin my own journey serving our community in public office. Thank you, Rebecca, for the example you have set for so many across Wisconsin!

Brittany stepped forward to run for State Superintendent because she believes our education system can always strive to do better for Wisconsin’s kids. What stood out to me most about her campaign was her willingness to bring forward new ideas focused on outcomes, accountability, and greater opportunity for students. Brittany has always made it clear that improving education shouldn’t be about political parties — it should be about doing what’s best for our children and I couldn’t agree more. She continues to show a strong commitment to strengthening education in Wisconsin, and I’m grateful she’s willing to work with others who want to move that mission forward.

When it comes to leadership and business, there is one person that stands in the front of the line - Cynthia! A 5th generation leader within her family’s business that was founded in 1858, she shifted the company’s approach from pharmaceuticals to “food as medicine” using nutrition as a primary intervention for chronic disease. To do something like that takes incredible courage and leadership qualities that people gravitate towards. I am blessed to call her my friend and am inspired by her approach to making our state healthy. If I’m elected as your next State Senator, I want to work toward policies that incentivize prevention and promote healthier lifestyles so we can improve health outcomes while strengthening the sustainability of programs like Medicaid.

I have known Adonica for over a decade and she has been both a business mentor, but more importantly, friend during that time. She is one of the hardest working and driven individuals I have ever known and outside of owning her own business, finds time to serve on 9 boards within our community. Her commitment to not only business and economic growth, but towards her multiple organizations that helps kids and entering the workforce with the skills and education to prosper in our great state is truly inspiring. Adonica has been a role model to me in so many ways and I am truly blessed for having her in my life.
