One of the reasons I hate Libertarian Billionaires so much isn't merely that they stole the Arts. Not content with their vast riches they wanted all our incomes as well. No, that wasn't enough. It's the way they stole our connections too. The best way to survive after they took our income was to roll up our sleeves and start connecting with people directly. And suddenly you have a network of folks you can work with. Then suddenly you can't get seen on Facebook 'Pages' without paying through the nose. You can't get support for anything unless 'celebrity' is somehow attached. Then you move to Twitter to speak to people and another fucker pops up to ruin that. Then one day even Mailchimp won't let you email anyone without charging silly money. Nothing is safe from them. They want everything not nailed down, and the stuff nailed down. And the nails. Help me fight them.

@slavojtrex public transportation is very expensive if you live outside NYC. if you are traveling from NJ w a family of 4, it's almost 4 times the cost when using NJ Transit and subway. so i'll still be driving to the city. they need to make public transportation appealing

Gonna be honest I don’t predict that Congestion Pricing will be that effective in reducing congestion, I think a similar # of people will drive into Manhattan with a $15 toll. Which would make it an absolute cash cow for the MTA the likes of which it has never seen in its history

@OliveTonic all these guys have been making the same song lately. it's getting really hard to tell them apart, and to be honest, it's just getting to be a little too much. I know it's a salty take but all of these guys sound and look the same now. It's interchangeable.

@STIHILIST @RAC it's 10000% the iphone and mobile and internet and apps and social media and influencers and likes and algorithms. there is no secret recipe here. people are tethered to their phones. it's nothing else. the old guard is dead. this is it.

@MikeSimonetti @RAC that's a lot of it, but beyond the mobile component and algorithmic feed spotify doesn't do much that mp3.com didn't already do 25 years ago once something's demystified it's difficult if not impossible to bring back to some position of intrigue or honor

i don't mean this to be alarmist, but is the entertainment industry ok? i've had this sense for the past few months that we're experiencing a massive shift, yet it's hard to put a pin in exactly what it is. this is purely anecdotal, but many artist friends are going part-time, managers seem lost and unsure of what to do to break an artist. I have no clue how I'd start in todays environment. a lot of labels/venues closing their doors. tiktok was almost a last gasp of air that is now being silenced. labels are only signing singles that are already trending, never investing in a long term career. the mighty pitchfork is being sold off for parts. and this is just music, i hear about a lot of stuff falling apart in film, budgets being 1/10th of what they used to be, an overabundance of content/etc.. I think it's easy to look at fear of AI, but I don't think that's it. is this all just a high interest rate environment? I started my career in 2007, i've never known anything else. thoughts? theories?

@MikeSimonetti @RAC the most direct parallel i have personal experience w/ is the fashion industry, which has undergone similar transformation adjusting to a world where everyone is an "insider" therefore no one is an insider has been frustrating to say the least marks didn't know they were marks
