There's a saying that you should be careful what you wish for because you might get it. So, what happens if other countries do what President Donald Trump asked Wednesday and start buying up U.S. oil? eenews.net/articles/trump…

My friend & colleague @pkcapitol sets the standard for how Hill reporters should do their job. He has done this for 25+years & will continue to do in his new job. Always read @pkcapitol

We just published my swan song for The Post: Congress nears tipping point of irrelevance. It’s been an amazing 19-plus-year run, especially last decade of this @PKCapitol column. The Post has been family, giving me this perch to cover Congress. So lucky … washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/…

Today was a really tough day at @EENewsUpdates 25% of us at the best energy and enviro news org decided to take a buyout I’m very sad to see extraordinary colleagues (and even better friends) leave — with management not explaining why that was needed See this 🧵 for more
penguild@penguild

At least 19 of our @EENewsUpdates @POLITICOProcolleagues have decided to take the buyout and leave us this week. It's no small amount. Not everyone was offered a buyout @politico. 1/4

Only a handful of reporters had a Pentagon pass for as long as I did—30 years—until I had no ethical choice but to turn it in last year. Thank you, judge, for this ruling; and thank you, @nytimes, for bringing the suit.

BREAKING: A federal judge ruled in favor of the New York Times, finding that the Pentagon's press policy violated its First and Fifth Amendment rights, and that of reporter Julian E. Barnes:

This reporter refused to be shushed: Yesterday Mariam Khan (@MKhan47) was the TV pool representative aboard Air Force One, meaning she was there on behalf of all the major networks. Khan brought up the fact that "your PAC put out a fundraising email" using photos taken at a dignified transfer of US service members killed in Kuwait. She asked: "Do you think that's an appropriate email to send?" Trump said yes, and that he didn't see the email, then defended himself, then asked, "Who are you with?" Trump genuinely didn't recognize Khan — it was actually her first time aboard Air Force One with him. (She reported from Capitol Hill for ten years and recently switched beats to cover the State Department, Pentagon and foreign affairs.) When she answered Trump's question and said ABC, he said, "I don't want any more from ABC," and looked around the plane for other questioners. But Khan was undeterred. She tried asking about the deaths of US service members. He didn't respond. She later said, "Can you explain why we’re sending 5,000 marines and sailors?" and he replied with the shush, adding, "You're a very obnoxious person." Khan kept trying — recognizing, again, that she was there on behalf of CNN, Fox and other networks. She asked about the Pentagon investigation into the missile strike at the school in Minab, Iran. He said, "We don't know." She asked about the deaths of service members again. He ignored her. Khan was exemplary. She was, as one ABC colleague said, "steady as can be." She was respectful and persistent. She refused to be shushed.

@maxwelltani Hmmm, "go to events, get quotes, plug them into a large language model" -- but WHICH QUOTES? it seems someone will need to decide.

New: Tension at the Associated Press over use of AI. One of the AP newsroom leaders leading the company's AI initiatives told staff that many editors preferred an AI-written article to a human one, and told them when it comes to using AI in the newsroom "resistance is futile."

There's something about the Olympics that makes them pressure-packed. Being able to handle the stresses and perform is an athletic skill that's worth admiring. But so is admitting to succumbing to it. As the Games close, a look at the pressure within. washingtonpost.com/sports/olympic…

This is a really hard day for a lot of people in Washington journalism. For those who are impacted -- or those who want a change -- please know that we are hiring for several roles, including a couple of editorial positions. We are a small but very ambitious newsroom. We are growing, profitable and investing in news. punchbowl.news/careers/
