In a note to staff, Business Insider EIC Jamie Heller says the publication is launching a pilot program called Business Insider AI News Desk that will use AI to “help publish quick news stories.” Several stories a day will now be “created by AI and edited by a person.”

@BusinessInsider Its editor-in-chief, Jamie Heller, is publicly bragging about the news bot, which is an egregious attempt to replace union journalists with AI. Let’s be clear: AI cannot replace newsroom workers. It’s incapable of the original reporting and analysis that readers rely on. (4/5)

It's simple — @propublica workers should not be replaced by artificial intelligence. Our contract proposal specifically says that generative artificial intelligence ("GAI") should not be used to replace employees. Management struck out this entire section in their response.
