US Army Command Sergeant Major Hugh A. Roberts was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame for his outstanding Ranger career, combat experience, and continued support to the Ranger community. CSM(R) Roberts has held every enlisted leadership position within the 75th Ranger Regiment from team leader to Regimental Command Sergeant Major. CSM(R) Roberts deployed in support of Operation Urgent Fury, Grenada; Operation Uphold Democracy, Haiti; Operation Safe Heaven, Panama; Operation Joint Guardian, Kosovo; Operation Enduring freedom, Afghanistan; and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq. CSM(R) Roberts was considered a father like figure for his ability to coach, teach, and mentor young men in the art of Rangering and living the Ranger Creed. As the Regimental Command Sergeant Major, CSM Roberts was instrumental in standardizing the Force Modernization Section to better equip Rangers during the War on Terror and beyond.Then Specialist Roberts participated in the daring low level, daylight, combat jump onto Point Salinas Airfield, Grenada. Follow-on missions included rescuing students from the True Blue medical campus and air assault raid on Calivigny Barracks. First Sergeant Roberts led A Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion on a no-notice deployment to Operation Uphold Democracy, Haiti. During a deployment for training to Panama, CSM Roberts was called upon to put down a Cuban refugee uprising in Operation Safe Haven. As CSM of 2nd Ranger Battalion on 9/11, CSM Roberts was on the ground when the first Rangers from the BN were deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time as the Regimental Command Sergeant Major of the 75th Ranger Regiment Operation Iraqi Freedom was initiated. Hugh Roberts was the first Ranger Command Sergeant Major to lead men in two geographically separated battlefields in modern times.
