I've been reconnecting with the long COVID community and have had a lot of support over the past month. There is a lot of justified frustration but I want to point out something, for what it is worth. The fact that we have unexplained symptoms does not mean that every symptom can be explained by COVID. I was recently diagnosed with coronary vasospasm. A lot of the symptoms overlap with what we call "long COVID"- chest pain, fatigue, circulation problems, and migraines. There may be benefits in the future to biomarkers for long COVID, but the only current hope for adequate treatment is to get your current illness diagnosed in a way that medicine as we know it can understand and treat it. Doubling down on forcing recognition that it is caused by COVID isn't usually helpful. I'm going back to my doctor today because the vasospasm treatment isn't working particularly well. I'll probably try a different calcium channel blocker. Now that I have a diagnosed illness, the doctor also has options. I really think we can help lift each other up, by sharing our journies and getting whatever help medicine as a field can give us at the moment because I sure as shit can't wait for years or decaudes for COVID specific treatment

Update: It was acl and meniscus. It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking. I returned to competition within 9 months to fight Diego Brandao back then. With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer. I am walking without a crutch. I done leg extension machine work the other day to no issue. So I can walk without aid, and activate my quad under resistance. All very positive. I am maximum discipline and have maintained it fully since the bout. I wonder was I saved from something worse here. I believe so. I would have attended the after party as “the man” and who knows then. I believe I was saved. Thank you God! On we go, no sad stories. I speak to this from a deeply personal vantage point: as an MD who has spent over 6 years with severe long term health effects of SARS-CoV-2, I have navigated this landscape as both a physician and a patient. Yet, when I offered my professional opinion years ago on the need for more rigorous clinical frameworks, the response was not an invitation to debate, but a systemic effort to discredit my character, creating a toxic environment that ultimately rendered the non-profit I led as CMO dormant due to a loss of operational funding. This experience underscores a concerning trend where an institutional echo chamber prioritizes protecting established networks over patient outcomes, allowing some to leverage their platforms to defend intellectual and commercial interests while millions of patients continue to face a lack of actionable interventions. Demands for rigor should never be characterized as harassment, and professional reputations should not be protected at the expense of patient care. My focus- along with so many others who advocate for pandemic-injured patients-remains entirely on driving transparent, scientific solutions that actually reach the bedside. We simply cannot afford to lose any more of our patients, family members, and friends to this crisis. 💕
